well i've been running a lawn mower battery on my ka-t for quite a while now but with the recent freezing temps in new england its just not cutting it.

because of intercooler clearance im choosing to get a miata battery. specifically the westco one which is advertised 475cca

since the stock battery is like 600+cca im just wondering if 475cca would be sufficent to start up a ka in below freezing temperatures.

any inputs would be appreciatedmerry christmas btw

I would get the biggest battery you can afford and relocated somewhere else IE: trunk. Or try a battery warmer and see how that fairs.

But I am not sure off hand what kind of battery your car requires but I am sure its in the service manual: http://Nicoclub.com/FSM.

DO not get the biggest battery you can it would be bigger than your car and you would not be able to drive. jkjk

in all seriousness i have an odyssey pc680. its 680 cca's and it only weighs like 14 pounds 475 is a little low. ( Its a better weight saving than a CF hood for 380 bucks less). if you plan on any big stereo these batteries arent for you.

I remember reading somewhere that these race batteries have a short lifespan, is this comparing to a normal car battery or what?

Here's what the FSM says:

I'm running a scooter battery rated at 420cca in Manhattan and it has been fine. Yesterday, she did struggle to turn on after being parked only one day. But last week, I didn't move the car for 5 days and it fired right up.

my odyssey has a 2yr full replacment warranty and have been known to last 5 yrs of regular use in a car.

thats pretty much how i justified it to my wife too, i also told her it helps with mpg lol.

They are 220 cold cranking amps and 370 cranking amps. I have one as well and love it. It sits all winter unplugged without a charger and after 10 minutes on the charger in the spring it fires right up.
