i have recently purchased a new alternator & battery for my i30, because that was a problem approx 3-4 months ago. now my dash lights are on, and i know thats what happened before my battery/alternator went out before.... i have a warranty on these things, but im hoping this isnt the problem. i also need new front brake pads, could that be the reason for the brake dash light being on? i know its not the e-brake because its on when i am driving.

Hi there and Welcome to NICO!

For you battery and brake light I would say to verify that you have sufficient tension on the belt and check your connections. The battery light illuminates when a drop in output voltage is detected. I would make sure that the 1x 12mm nuts is on correctly and the plug in the back it fully installed.

The brake light will illuminate for a few reasons when the charging voltage is low also the parking brake and/or brake fluid level sensor will cause the light to illuminate.

No problem there is almost always someone here who can help.

Check those things and keep us posted on what you found, if everything checks out though there is more work to be done.

took my car in today to get brakes fixed... alternator dies. its not even 6 months old. its supposed to be a year warranty on the alternator but unfortunately i had it installed in california. i dont have the receipt still, and i wouldnt have been able to make it to california. i know the guy personally who installed it, so it shouldnt have been a problem if i would have been able to make it back out there. so im having another alternator installed now, $360. plus the $122.40 i already paid for the brakes. apparently i have a bad cv boot/ and or axle, that needs to be replaced ASAP, so within a week or so im gonna be back at the shop getting that done.

what a weekend!!

That sucks when it rains it pours I guess.

Any of those items are not uncommon. Especially when using aftermarket parts. The price of OEM is higher but if it were installed at a dealer you could take it to anyone for the repair if in the unlikely event it were to fail.

Now you should have a piece of mind knowing your car is in good working order. It sucks to find that out the hard way.
