Battery and Brake Lights Stay On---Problem Fixed!

My daughter's '93 Sentra recently needed a new alternator. After replacing it, the battery and brake lights on the dash would stay on or flicker on and off. I could sometimes even hear the relay behind the dash clicking, but the new alternator was charging.

I searched the forum and got all kinds of advice. Top off the brake fluid, check the fuses, replace the relay, recheck the connections, etc.

The ground connection looked good, but having tried everything else, I cleaned all the ground connections and problem solved. I guess the moral of the story is that looks can be deceiving and it can't hurt to check. These solid state electronics need to see a good ground or they can rebel.
