I need to vent to people than can feel my pain. This bast@rd hit me when exiting a gas station yesterday. Plowed right into the side of my innocent Q. Young punk with questionable insurance

The last pic is of his car:

If his insurance doesn't pan out I will in the market for two driver's side doors...

Yeah. All things considered, it could have been alot worse than it is. Cops gave him a ticket for expired insurance card.

Not a good sign...

Just pissed off about the trouble I have to now go through. All day long I was wondering about the "what ifs". What if I didn't go down that road, woke up a little later, you know, the crap that drives you insane.

This thread is like one of those surgery shows on Discovery. Very painful to look at.

Well, at least you have pictures, his driver's and car license, and his insurance ID number.

Go get him.

It will cost you around $4K to replace the doors and rear quarter panel and spray match the paint.

My experience in life has led me to believe what's meant to happen is going to happen. Count your blessings that no one died or was severly injured. I was a passenger in a car that fliped at 80mph and rolled 4 times and landed on it's roof in a swamp, and I crawled out of the car while it was still moving. When the ambulance came and saw me, it was like I wasn't even in the car. They didn't believe me when I told them that I was a passenger, considering what was left of the car and what had happened to the other guys. I got real lucky! The other guys can't say the same.

I'm glad your ok, good luck with the insurance, and hope to see you enjoying your Q again soon.

I appreciate the setiments and sympathy. My daughter was injured, but thank god it was only a sprained ankle. She was sitting behind me (Counting my Blessings).

On a side not, I have a question for you guys that have been through accidents already...

If it turns out that the party that hit me is uninsured, what is my next step? Would you belive I'm thirty but have never been in an auto incident. Do I repair and send him the bill personally or is there a formal procedure I need to follow. Some kind of worst case scenario.

I hope I don't have to go this route but I want to be prepared.

Take him to court. But it's hard to get anything from someone that has nothing.

If you carry full coverage you probably have uninsured motorist coverage. Your insurance company will handle the repair. If you are carrying minimum coverage (PL & PD only) then you are on your own. You will have to take the other party to court to get your $$ unless you can come to an agreement.

I had a similar "side scrape" in my Q with only the rear door (replaced), rear 1/4 panel and bumper dented and the damage was $3700. Your car looks to be much worse. Be prepared for the insurance company (if fully insured) to total you out. I hope I am wrong. Good luck.

[QUOTE=goody94q45]If you carry full coverage you probably have uninsured motorist coverage. Your insurance company will handle the repair.

Uninsured motorist coverage if for medical expenses for passengers in your car, when the other driver is at fault and doesn't have insurance.

Full coverage insurance would cover the damage under the collision portion.

If you don't have full coverage, you will need to go through small claims court. Check your states small courts dollar limits. Some states allow up to $5000 once a year, but many states limits are $2500. No attorneys are allowed. It's a pretty easy process, you tell your story to the judge, bring pictures of the car and the scene of the accidents. Bring blue book values, estimates for repair and the police report. If the other guy doesn't show up it's pretty easy to win. Collection is a different story.

I just had to go through this process. I got hit in a parking lot by a Sundevil auto mechanic test driving a car. Cops wouldn't write a report because it was on private property. Their insurance co said it was my word against his and would not pay. Repair bill was $3200 I was awarded $4200 in small claims court. Judge used book value and subtracted estimated value of car in wrecked condition from local body shop. Their insurance company ended up paying. Took 3 months from date of accident to collect. Took a lot of work and time but worth it in the end. Good luck.

Shyte!! I pray this guy has insurance (guy with blue hat in one of the pics). I knew what I was getting my self into when buying the Q. Maintanence and such, but damn I wasn't prepared for potentally $3000+ in repairs.

I'm still in discussions with his insurance company. Turns out he wasn't on the vehicle's policy. It seems the company(AIICO) doesn't want to fess up to any wrong doing on thier client's part. They won't start a claim without the name of the registered driver. It should be on the police report. I don't have it yet, takes a few days here in NYC.

Hopefully I can get this thing ironed out after I get the report and hit the insurance company with some documents and photos!I'll keep you guys posted...

How about contacting the guy that hit your car and work out some deal to have him locate and buy (or you locate if you can find some) doors and then have him help you strip them down and prep them to be professionally sprayed in matching paint. Then you could have him help reassemble the doors and hang them on the car. On top of that you should have him pay you for your time that you're helping him save $$$. It may sound like I'm a big softy, but I'm sure the guy didn't intentionally hit you and we all have moments when we have a brief mental lapse for some reason or another while driving. If he's a stand up guy and wants to make good, he'll be grateful for this type of offer. And it could end up doing him a lot of good as far as learning and being responsible for his mistakes. If he wasn't insured, he will also learn some basics of body refinishing so he can patch up his Nissan. Welp, that's my take on the situation. Too bad your Q got scraped up. Oh yeah, have him foot the bill to fix the rear wheel lip and have that refinished too.
