Hey I was wondering if anyone uses a bass tube as opposed to the massively oversized box with two 12's that my car has (I thought I remember azhitman doing it).

Well I guess my questions are

1) What size tube2) does it fit?3) how does it sound? (dont need it to pound, but would like it to retain some thump)4) what kind of support or bracing did you use to keep it from sliding everywhere? Do you have pics?

I'm kinda interested in getting some trunk space so I can fit more than 1 pair of shoes in there ^^ (bought it from some old lady, don't ask me why she needs two 12s)

Thanks!

I've been tossing over the subwoofer idea for a while.

I have some very high quality subs, but not enough room to fit them effectively. So I sort of tossed out the subs idea.

I was planning to buy an Infinity Basslink. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-INFINI...wItem

They are like 14 x 12 x 8 I think. Should fit nicely up next to the convertible top pump.

Until then, I am thrilled with my bass shakers. They are little vibrators that emulate bass. You can mount them to the frame of your seats. Power them with a small sub. They literally provide all the feel of a subwoofer without any of the noise or size. I've found it very cool. Since most bass is so low that you really feel it more than you hear it.

Anybody else have a bass tube mounted in the trunk???

The only 'vert I put a sub system into was a '94 Stang ( Kicker C10a ). 1/2 the trunk space was taken up since this thing needed 1.25cf of airspace. Worked great with the top up, but lost 1/2 of the volume down (sealed enclosure with sub pointing backward). Today, subs are much more efficient in small enclosures. I would look for a small-enclosure sub with a good Xmax range. If it pumps enough air, you should be good. The other option is to go with a ported enclosure with the port sized to extend into the cabin.

Yep, I've got the Infinity Bass Link in the left side of the trunk. I can still get groceries, a baseball bag, workout gear and electric guitar in there without too much problem. I'll try and take some pics at lunch and post them.

The Bass link made the most sense to me 'cause I didn't want a "thumpa thumpa" type of system but rather one that would have some shake and provide better low end. You can dial in the amount of bass you want and also effect the crossover frequency. Most new head units (radios, not girlfriends) come with adjustable subwoofer outs.

The bass tubes might be good also but the Infinity got better reviews. Like everything it takes some tweeking...

Good luck,cmk

Yeah, I pulled mine out during this most recent round of mods... Worked great though.

I had the 8" Bazooka, and my battery in the space under the top boot (next to the top motor).

I wedged some big chunks of foam around the bass tube and built a false "wall" in the trunk (seperating that area from the main trunk)... Nothing had any room to rattle around.

I've got two 10" subs in my trunk with plenty of room to spare. I had to custom build two pods out of mdf, fiberglass, and bondo to get 'em though. I painted them red to match the car. They look and sound awesome. I'd post pics but my digital camera just bit it for no reason. As soon as I replace it I'll post some pics to show off my recently completed system. -Glyph

cmkelly-

Does that basslink fit under where the top comes down? AZhitman put a basstube in that spot and he said there was no clearance issues.

Also how does it REALLY sound? (have you ever had 2 12's or another setup in your vert for comparison?)

Occassionally I like to pound some sounds. But for the most part I listen to power metal and happyhardcore. So generally faster music so there's usually isn't any thumping since the beats are so fast.

Thanks!

Yes, it fits perfectly under the "sissor hinge" all the way to the left. I secured mine with two screws only because I might need to get to the jack that is located in the left rear panel of the trunk.

It sounds pretty good to me but have nothing to compare it to other than the crap I hear from the cars next to me. I'm not a kid and wanted a better sounding sub. This one will thump pretty hard if you ccrank it all the way or you can dial it down (it has a remote dial that you can mount in the cockpit) for less obtrusive bass. You can adjust crossover freqs. as well to taylor it to your likes.

The Basslink I have is 200 watts and I think they make a 250 now. A key is having good door and rear speakers to compliment the sound so the subs not having to do more than provide the deep bottom end.

I don't have a separate power amp for my 4 other speakers but imagine the whole system would sound better if I did.

Here's a Crutchfield review:http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.....html

Happy hunting...

Alright, sounds good. I'll check it out. thanks.

P.S. (have you tried sticking it way in the back of the trunk where the top comes down? the convertible top, next to the motor. might be a little too tall for that maybe)
