bass/sub delay

I'm having trouble with my sub hitting late, like the bass is somewhat delayed on the way to my sub. Whats the biggest cause for this. I've got a 1k watt legacy amp, and a 12" 1k max volvenhag sub. any ideas on how to fix this

Check the phasing of the sub. Does it push out or pull in during bass beats?
