Hey guys, im new to the forum. Im wondering if my mod list is a good one for a basic motor swap into an s13. Ive added up all the costs (2500 for a clean blacktop, 1200 for labor) and I will have about $2000 to mod with. I want to have a tasteful, well balanced car. No turbo swaps w/ stock brakes kind of deals. Heres my list (from 240sx motoring).

100- Intake500- Apex NOIR cat-back150- High flow cat300- Exedy stage-1 clutch150- Clutch lines/ brake lines, brake pads100- Some turbo timer w/ boost meter200- Tein s. springs300- Shocks

Total: $1800

As you can tell, i'll be running the stock sidemount, stock radiator and stock boost for a while till the next stage. What do ya'll think?

You'll need to have the flywheel resurfaced. Does that $1200 install rate include new belts, hoses, fluids, plugs, etc? I recommend changing the front and rear main seals, and a new water pump as well. Hopefully your shop experience will turn out better than mine has.

Only new intake you'll get for $100 will be generic, Get a straight pipe and wait to buy the cat until you need to smog it, You don't need to replace clutch "lines", just get new master and slave and only replace the 1' section of soft line by the slave with ss woven, screw the turbo timer and get a boost gauge instead, Don't buy teins, get eibach or H&R or something if you really must. Don't forget basic maintenance like water pump, thermo, plugs, gaskets, motor and transmission mounts, etc...It can add up quick.

Yea if your thinking that you can do the whole swap and finish everything like I did for around 5K, You'll be sadly mistaken! I thaught 5-6K I would be ok, NOT!

Speaking from experience, hold off on buying the suspension right now. Wait until the swap is done with, and you have a few hundred miles on it to work out any bugs.

Honestly, have an extra $1000 ready for anything to go wrong, because there is a good chance that something might happen.

Here is what you should shoot for:

- intake- used catback (I got my HKS Hi-Power for $250 shipped in excellent condition)- Exedy Stage *2* (It's only a little more, and you won't have to worry about it later on when wanting more power)- High-flow cat- Brand new clutch master and slave- boost gauge- downpipe + turbo elbow- front and rear main seals- waterpump- NGK Iridiums- motor mounts- Redline MT90 transmission fluid- Lightweight flywheel if you can- Walbro fuel pump

As others have said, it adds up REALLY quickly. Don't rely on your importer to help you unless he's Jeff from HT.

i dont know where you guys shop but i got a s14sr20det, z32 maf, safc2, fmic, dp, dump, walbro, mani all for $2500. And i installed it myself. damn save that $1200. Especially on a s13 sr20det which is very easy to install and wire up.

That's a good price, but I don't think everyone knows how to shop like we do.

Definitly replace front and rear main seals NOW, and get anything else like water pump, oil pump blah blah, replaced. Try not to focus too much on the power, but more on starting it.

Where did you get your motor from for that cost? Im looking for an S13 red top for my 89 hatch. The best i found was one for $1500 + shipping from osakajdm but thats seems a little cheap to me, and ive heard mixed things about that shop.

i would go to sr20store and have marco build you a Basic build setup, its going to run about $3200 for the long block, but it will be built to handle 20lbs of boost.

I think im just going to go through osaka then. Would $1000 be enough to get it running and to replace the seals and such?

No, more $ than that. PLEASE get a compression test on the motor your buying from your importer! You'll thank me later.

^ if the importer is selling bad motors what makes you think he wont lie about compression numbers?the only way to get a good motor for sure is to go there in person or pay the extra $$ and buy from a reputable importer (heavy throttle, enjuku, jarcocorp, jhot-imports).
