A good place to start power wise on an NA is intake, headers, and exhaust. Don't neglect upgrading the suspension and brakes though

He's talking about whp.

The NAs came with 220+ bhp. Factor the hp lost through belts and the drivetrain, and you're looking at a number significantly less. Then there's the HP the car may not have anymore due to the age and condition of the motor.

yeah dude but 230 @ the wheels on a heavily modified vg is not even close to right. my old 240 was gettin round 315 to the wheels and it wasnt extremely modified.

The best I've seen to the wheels with every possible bolt on possible is like 218~ HP.

The NA does not respond well to upgrades. But the TT does =]

start off with an intake and exhaust headers high flo cats free flowing mufflers and get the piping after the cat to a 2.5 (it could be this already im not sure but on my exhaust i got done its 2.5 and its pretty good) then from there id say go with an ECU upgrade along with bigger fuel injectors and you will have a pretty nasty Z after injectors id get the throttle bodies bored if you wanna go real deep into it get the engine bored over and all of that but id say basic bolt ons will make it fast enough to rape most cars on the street mine just has a JDM engine exhaust with stock headers and cats that are about to disinigrate (lol) and i raped a few of the typical mustangs civics(LOL) and i got a dodge ram yesterday who had a :O oh **** face on cuz i pulled away from him so fast lol

230 WHP on an NA... sounds about 10-20 over what you are going to get. What is the right answer here then? 380 or so BHP in a 240sx is not extremely modded?

sorry chief, it's not possible to get that kind of power out of a KA without forced induction

honestly I think 215 whp from a KA would require a high end engine build

i have a 90 na, auto, and the only mod it's got right now is no cats, and free flowing muffs. i think it's about a 2 or 2.5 inch pipe run straight back to the muffs, and mines pushing about 200 or 210 right now, and you're saying if i put all of those bolt ons on it it's only going to raise my hp by 10-20 hp? whats the freakin point in wasting money on the bolt-ons if thats all you can get, i feel you should be able to get alot more, but i'm still learning the z's right now

Did you dyno it for the 200/210? Sounds a little high. Here is an example of a stock NA Z: http://www.dragtimes.com/1995-....html. I think the most I have seen is about 220 WHP with about everything done short of a shot of NOS or a complete over-bore. The NA doesn't really respond well to bolt ons. If I had an NA I would look into a sick suspension setup to whip around corners rather than drop $3k into the car to run the 1/4 mile .3 seconds faster. Or just enjoy it as is and save up for a TT!

With basic bolt ons, you're looking at around 200-210whp.

Mine with Intake/Headers/Exhaust/Test Pipes/Pully makes just over 205whp. Fresh and very healthy engine, great compression, low leakdown, etc.

i didn't dyno it, i was going off of the power i could feel in the car, and my expierence with all my old cars, and my dad that's been in motors since he was like 4 thinks thats about what it's got. maybe the guy i bought it from did some internal work or something.

lol!

A human dyno eh?

You may be confusing low end torque and throttle response with what you think is peak hp.

well when you consider my 84 silverado i used to have, had a goodwrench 350 crate engine in it, and a 400 turbo transmission, me and my dad took it out and played with it, and i asked what he thought the hp was on it, he said he thought it would be 290-305ish, and we had it dynoed, and it came in at 301 hp. And this has happened more than once. so i trust and believe my dad when it comes to hp, and let alone cars. But since he had his anuerism(however you spell it) and 2 strokes he has the mind set of a little kid, with a little knowledge he used to have, he just can't say what he wants when he wants, it's been hard to get him out to mess with the z, but before all that happened he drove it, and even rode in it with me drivin and he believe it's pushing around that.

even a broken clock is right twice a day....and did you dad weight the car first or sis he guess the weight as well?nothing against your dad, but there si a reason we have chassis dyno's and not just ask some guy what he thinks the power is....honad knows very well what the n/a can do and has documented it, and is willing to share ti with you, you should thank him

he's known about the weight issue with the z's. and you're right that is why we have dyno's, but it's my dad, not just some guy, and my dad has proven to be right about things like this time and time again, as i said before it may have internal stuff done to it that i don't know about, i haven't torn my motor apart yet and looked. Not planning on doin that until i have to

I do see how someone with plenty of years messing with cars can have a idea of HP. Nailing the HP by a guess impossible. So Honad if you are saying 205 with those mods I hope you have the ECU chipped to match the bolt ons,... & how much do you think lighter flywheel, better clutch, and 1 piece drive shaft wold add to the HP

ecu mods are misunderstood, they only change a couple of basic formula's in the ecu, they aren't so very specific beyond matching the injectors you want to run, the MAS based systems pretty much take care fo themselves to a certain point, aftermarket chips just take out a bit fo the detune put in by the factory for saftey and warranty purposes

if you would like to prove your father correct just put the car on a dyno and post up the results, otherwise I suggest you let it go

JWT was aware of all my modifications when they reflashed, but as evildky said, it really doesn't make a ton of difference until you start changing injector size, air inlet, fuel pressure. The JWT flash for an I/E NA, an I/H/E NA and an I/H/E/P NA are the same.

I'm hoping to break 210whp with the lightweight flywheel that should be going on in the next couple months. Maybe another 4-5whp freed with a 1-piece driveshaft when I get around to doing that.

Ultimately, I'm praying for more power at the wheels than the car made stock at the crank by 2010. So, anything > 222whp with just bolt-ons would be fantastic imho.

I saw a dyno sheet posted by someone on another site once showing 255 to the wheels with their n/a and saying it was done without nos. I find that a little hard to believe but his mod list was big and included stuff like boring the pistons etc. More believable ones are 200 to 220 max.

I've seen n/a L28 powered 240Z's put 250 hp to the wheel, lots of compression and race fuel (strokers can do more but we're talking stock bottome end) milled ported heads and cams can go a long way but for the cost involved, buy a TT

Ive had my 92 N/A for about 2 years and after heavy mods im only putting out 274 to the wheels :wtf2: its not great but its still an awesome little car to drive but for the amount of work ive put into it its deffinetly well worth getting a TT instead. I mean considering i have the block bored, wiesco pistons eagle rods jwt heads, race cams, 1mm oversized valves, 370cc injectors, a full megan racing exhaust, k&n intake, jwt ecu and 245 tires in the rear (04 350z rims) im still getting beat out by alot of cars on the street....... buy a TT and s*** on cars errywerrrrr :dblthumb:
