Can someone give me a good write-up on setting the base idle. I'm trying to check my timing but the mark continues to rotate around the crank pulley instead of holding steady. I'm using the plug wire method which is working and my z is idling at 850 right now and i think thats why i'm having problems checking the timing. I need to get the idle down. If someone has the page number in the service manual that can help me let me know. Its kind hard finding specific repair info in the manual. I'm getting tired of flipping through the pages trying to find this info.

you might be able to get the idle down at the aicv or at the tb's but the timing shoudl still be stable at 850 rpm, if the idle is not steady the timing will move btu this is generally caused by a miss, or some other failure

Yea i know about using the aicv. I did that when i tried the first time. I unplugged the connector for the aicv and the tps sensor then adjusted the aicv screw. It brought the idle down but i wanted to make sure i'm doing it right because i can't get it down to the 750 rpm base idle. I used the screw at the tb's as well but that made the car stall. I guess i closed the butterfly valves but i want to get a dial indicator to reset that screw. I turned it back and forth so many times i lost where it was set to begin with.
