Base audio system quality?

I am considering buying a 2007 or 2008 M35. I don't want/need the navigation system (which has the upgraded stereo), but I will buy it if the audio system is a significant upgrade to the base system. My questions: 1. How good or bad is the base audio system?2. How good or bad are the upgraded audio systems?Thanks very much.

The bose system in the tech package is terrificit also plays dvd-a audio which is the best i have heardi am 55 years old and listen to pink floyd stones etc no idea how it handles rap or current musici think the upgrade to stereo is worth it to me, when crusin at 75 miles and hour v6 or v8 dont matter but all day long you get the tech goodiesMazz

If you like music, it's a signifigant upgrade. Just being able to listen to DVD-Audio and regular DTS DVD concert videos is worth it alone. I'm not normally a Bose fan but this is a decent effort. Just don't compare it to a friend's Mark Levinson Lexus system....

they arn't bad, but considering that even some hyundais have better sound system is sad. Infiniti goes to bose, that makes cheap home stereo systems, and Lexus goes to Mark levinson, who makes expensive high quality system that easly retail $10,000+. The system is actually very generic in the M if you ask me.

I have a M45 with the base system and I find it disappointing. Its a (small) step down from my old Lexus GS base system. FM quality is very poor making satellite a must. CDs and XM are acceptable but I expected better for even a base system in a car this price.
