Greg and I made our annual pilgrimage out to Scottsdale, a lengthy 40+ miles, in order to bring you personal coverage of the event. Unfortunately, we were only able to go the first part of the week when it was bitter, bitter cold. As was the weather, this year's event was a bit odd. We saw a lot of cars there that just didn't seem to belong. Barrett-Jackson is supposed to be for elite cars, special cars, unique cars. We saw cars there this year that, quite honestly, could have been found on a Buy Here Pay Here lot. For instance, there was a 1990 Chevy S10 pickup and a 1995 Dodge Ram there. Who the heck cares about either of those? Updated paint? Congratulations. Low miles? Dandy. You shouldn't get to go to Barrett-J just because you painted your car or you never drove it anywhere.

Ford had a really awesome display sat up at the event entrance. Everything in their new lineup was there. The staff on hand were very knowledgeable and I got to climb into every car they had. My favorites: the Fusion and the F-150. The truck was awesome. Lots of creature comforts, power, towing capability, and 5 more mpg than the Frontier. *sigh* Cadillac had a sparce, but nice display. They had an ATS, which Greg immediately fell in love with. It was beautiful, comfortable, and sexy as hell. I would definitely own one: the V6 with a manual trans, light interior, charcoal paint. Yes please and thank you. :yesnod

Anyway, here are a few of my favs. I'll post the link to the full album at the end. Warning: if you like Mustangs or Camaros, you're gonna be real disappointed. They don't impress we so there aren't many in there. My favorites this year: the VW Buses, a chevy truck that I would have given up a lot for, the Delehaye, the Duesenberg, and the Talbot-Lago. I apologize in advance for some of the pics. Apparently I had a shaky hand in some of them and the lighting was terrible. Glare everywhere. Anyway, here you go!

This was hysterical. Check out the wheel fitment on the brand new Viper. W T F ??

The Z. I wish I could say a lot of good things about this car but I can't. It's a 30 footer on a foggy night.

Great pix! Looked like a fun time. I watched a good bit of it on tv, fairing dreadfully on the Hagerty Fantasy Bids. It probably didn't help that I shot from the hip and did no research.

I particularly liked the Duesie and Talbot. Amazing lines on those cars. I also have a soft spot for those old W microbus's. I went camping once in an older Westfalia as a child.

I'm also amazed how much the Batmobile went for. I believe the $4.2 mill excludes BJ's seller/buyer premiums. Holy payday, Batman.

The original T-bird is jaw-droppingly pretty. Imagine if Ford had taken it in the direction GM did with the Corvette.

Whoever chose to put those terrible wheels on that magnificent car should be castrated. Chevelles just never get old. I don't think ANY car since has topped the '66-'69 Chevelle front end.

Quick question: I'm thinking about bringing my daughter to next years Barrett-Jackson auction. Do you have to be registered as a bidder for the auction to gain access to the grounds and view the cars? Or can you just view the cars?

You don't have to be a buyer. They sell tickets online on their website and they have a family day, just for the kids. No auctions that day but the cars are on display for viewing. It's a great time.
