I'd love to attend one year. I LOVE '60s GM and Ford, and quite a bit of Mopar, too. Chevelles, Impalas, Galaxies, Novas, Falcons, Fairlanes.... I love 'em all.

Also:
If modern family cars had names HALF as good as any of these, brand recognition wouldn't be an issue. YES I'M LOOKING AT YOU FORD. Focus, Fusion, and Taurus mean less than nothing to me. But Galaxie, 500, Fairlane and Falcon all do. And, oh look, 3 of those start with F. MAKE THEM HAPPEN.

I bet if the Focus, Fusion, and Taurus were more memorable cars their names would mean something to you.

I perused the list of cars the other day, quite a collection. The green dime wagon looked kinda nice. I'm interested to see how much the Tucker goes for.

This is partly true. But Focus and Taurus are just stupid names off the bat. Like Camry and Civic. Stupid names. And past SHOs were memorable, but did nothing for their name. Fusion's not a bad name, and is a good car, but would still do better with the Fairlane name attached.

Of course, we could talk about OTHER manufacturers who take iconic names from their past and smear dung all over them. YES I MEAN YOU CHEVROLET. Malibu used to mean something good, now, thanks to the 90s, it means mediocrity. Impala used to mean something, too. Now it means "whoops, I guess since we spent all this money on the platform we had better use it SOMEWHERE." And Nova meant something, too, until they started slapping it on Toyotas. Cruze will never mean anything because it's a stupid name.

So, in summary, our lesson for today:

1: Use names that mean something.
2: Stop changing names to hide from your past or they'll never ACQUIRE meaning.
3: And if you're going to build a car DO IT RIGHT, especially if you don't want to ruin a good name.

Next time on How Not to be Mindlowingly Stupid in the Auto Industry 101 with Professor DOOM:
--Why names are better than letters.
--Why SHO is not pronounced "show"
--Spelling names wrong on purpose: when it works and when it doesn't work.
--And why building a $40k FWD V6 luxury car is the stupidest thing since jumping off cliffs.

I think Ford calling the new Ess Aitch Oh "Show" has been a huge lapse in judgement by the current marketing idio..er...managers at Ford. Perhaps they were not around when Ford first introduced the Ess-aitch-oh but it's clear they have no clue what those letters meant.

Thank you, I hate that. The same goes for the STi, its not "Stigh" or a "Rex". Am I the only one that thinks Civic and Camry fit the car well?

Agreed that new names suck like Fuzion, Juke, Caravan, Cruze, Prius (Not pronounced Pry-us Jeremy), etc. There are a few names I like, but I find car companies that name cars by numbers and letters on allll their cars annoying and hard to keep track of .. cough.. Mercedes.. :)

The wagon is immaculate. We talked to the owner for about an hour on Monday. Super nice guy. Wish he had thrown this up on eBay before he brought it to the show. I would have politely asked him to drop it at the house on the way in. He also has up for sale a BRE Z and a heavily modified G-nose. There was a nice showing of Datsuns this year. Last year there was only one Z, this year there are several, plus the Dime, a Patrol, and a Roadster. I'm anxious to see how much they go for.

The Tucker is beautiful. It was roped off in a section with several REALLY high dollar cars: a Duesenburg (sp?), a Packard, 2 Pierce Arrows, a gorgeous Italian car, etc. I can't wait to see the coverage. For once in my life, I wish I had TiVo.

As always, there will be a link at the end for the entire album. We took over 500 pics. These are my favorites, and not so favorites. Enjoy! :wavey:

Lots of cool Micro-cars this year.

A Bianchini $23,100

A Subaru $12,100

Image

A Goggomobil $27,500

Image

A Mini

Image

A Vespa $23,100

A Honda Z600 Coupe $15,950

I like the obscure, rare stuff more than I do the typical muscle car fare (I could care less about a Camaro or a Mustang)

1930 Duesenburg

Image

1933 Pierce Arrow

Image

The Tucker was beautiful but there were so many signs around it, this is the only good pic I got. $2,650,000

Image

1933 Packard Convertible

Image

The JFK Hearse

Image

Image

Antique Ford Truck. Can't remember the year but it looks a lot like Greg's Dad's car so I'm guessing around '31, maybe a little older.
$20,900
Image

1957 Austin Cambrian $8,525

Image

Image

Beautiful Austin $99,000

Image

1953 Olds Fifty Eight Convertible. All white with baby blue interior and top. Stunning in person.

The VW Microbus with popup trailer + matching bicycle built for two has replaced the Tucker as my new favorite. Wow. I went camping once in a Westfalia as a kid. They rock...literally :chuckle: The Duesie and Packard are simply stunning. I had read that 350Z is serial number 0000001. first one in the US. pretty cool.

I watched a few hours yesterday. It's so addicting. :dblthumb:

The silver Roadster brought $33,000. It was nowhere NEAR worth that but I'm glad the Datsuns made a good showing. Hopefully the new owner lives in ignorant bliss.
