I have a 92 240sx hb.

The engine has been completely torn down.
The block was acid dipped and cross hatched.
It has new piston rings and engine bearings.
The head had minimal work.
It was milled and the valve seats in cylinder 1 were worked or replaced.
There was no compression in cylinder one.
The following is new:
Timing chain kit, oil pump, water pump, thermostat, oxygen sensor, distributor, coil.

I would like to add a bare minimum turbo for fuel efficiency.
I would like to keep as many stock items as possible.
I would like to keep my A/C.

Can someone recommend a setup?

You do understand there is no fuel efficiency to turbo charging. Infact if you don't have teh right MAPS ecu tune it will probably run rich rather than lean.
Larger injectors that pulse width more use more fuel per liter, which will give you more HP obviously, but does not mean it will improve efficiency.
Efficiency comes from gear ratio to rate of torque/HP yielded per rpm. If you are going turbo you will want a 300z HLSD to start.

Best efficiency is natural aspiration you can run it as lean as you want and the stock injectors are good to about 210HP at the crank(175WHP) for the 2.4 liter displacement, thats also an arbitrary arguement because it all depends at what RPM that HP is yielded, the higer the RPM the greater the rate the injectors have to pulse whihc can blow them out. I actually started blowing out injectors at 169WHP @6500RPM, the engine yielded 31MPG highway when it wasn't wide open throttle.

Good point Vin , I'll just give this guy what he asked for...

S15 T28 ( smallest compressor size recommended , also cheapest BB turbo)
Bottom mount manifold or top mount if funds are there
Some kind of ROM tune ( your choice , I have a JWT)
550cc injectors, anything smaller is a waste especially when the boost bug bites( I have 740cc Tomei's)
EBay SR pipe kit , a solid intercooler ( Garrett , Treadstone , JDM etc.)

Basically that's it , above is kinda identical to my set up on my stock engine. I was pushing about 290 whp and 14psi all day I was getting 32 mpg if I didn't boost it.

ok, I think this makes my point.
This engine is rated at 28mpg highway at the most.
I average 24mpg doing highway and in town.
You say you get 32mpg. Someone else said they get 31mpg.
Seems like fuel efficiency to me.

Thanks for the setup recommendations.

Actually the first guy was explaining that better fuel economy is very possible with natural aspiration. It all comes down to tuning. If you just want better fuel economy slapping on a $2500+ turbo system is kinda backwards thinking.

Also we have a KA24DET forum here. This question would be more relevant there.

I've also realized when it comes to fuel mileage alot of people boast or brag numbers on that MPG, mostly the turbo guys fib a little to make their car sound better, or infact they have put 5 grand into a tranny, and Diff swap.

I mean I also own a Nissan Titan VK56de, my 2014 model gets the best gasmileage out of all the Titan model years because of its VVT, however we are talking about less than 1mpg, is it really worth bragging about? NO because my Titan gets 18MPG highway

What makes turbo charging efficient is forced induction which has the ability to increase (force induct) atmospheric pressure into the engine, however it isn't efficient as it isn't natural to the state of liter displacement, meaning that CO2 and NOX emissions increase per displacement. Defined by the EPA efficiency is reducing the level of NOX Co2 per liter while increasing fuel economy to displacement.

Without Turbo can this car be tuned to get better MPG?

I am only averaging 22mpg to 24mpg.

Factory is 28mpg max.

I do have some mods like an eletric fan and the egr delete.

Centerforce dual friction clutch.

n60 MAF WITH safc (dyno tuned)

aluminum flywheel

larger exhaust

I am having my mechanic review all of this.
Thanks so much for the tips.
