ok i own a 91 240sx coupe with stock ka, well i was out drifting last night and when i woke up this morning, on my way to school i heard a loud bang and no, it wasnt a backfire, i swear it sounded like my piston blew out my hood but that wasnt it. i checks spark plugs and i couldnt find any oil and i took off my valve cover and everything seemed fine under there, but my car doesnt run right, it shakes and im guessing the timming is WAY off, it kind of sounds like only running on 3 cylinders....so im guessing it comes down to the timming chain, tensioner and guides...i dont know what is wrong i need help please! can anyone help me

If you're really concerned with internals actually failing I'd suggest a compression test and leak down test to get a better feeling on what condition your motor is in. And if the timing is off get a timing gun to confirm your thoughts.

Probably timing chain but usually the car stops running after the piston hits the valves but not al of the time. But you should have noticed maybe a cracked lifter or one with lots of wear when the cover was off.

you may have heard your spark plug taking a hit from the piston, dont ask me exactly how that occurred but ive seen that happen before.

but if its running crappy id pull the sparkplugs and useing a bore light or a flexible led light get in there and check the piston heads for dents, do a compression test, and also check the exhaust/intake manis for missing bolts, or cracks, and if your exhaust broke. those all can be loud and cause the engine to run like crap.

the chain check as well, my belt teeth shredded off and the belt itself stayed fine, the car ran for a while until it finished stripping the last teeth on the belt. boy that screwed the timing up :P
