What's the deal here? Is everyone just jamming bandwidth w/ the same posts? i know i'm new to this forum as well, but i swear lately, I've been seeing the same " what kind of exhausts should i get?" post over and over. I know i don't know all that there is to know about SRs but i wanna be able to search for additional info without having to see, "cannot access due to low bandwidth" or wutever that message is. And i'm the type of person that doesnt post unless I've been searchin extensively or if it's an emergency. Or maybe i'm wrong and this site just has low bandwidth to begin with. :D

our site does not have low bandwidth, its the influx of new users and repeated questions, as well as all the images that we were hosting, hence the HTML in signatures being turned off.

Simple to solve the problem, don't host any photos. If people want photos, make them outsource the bandwidth. I host all my photos on a different server. It has unlimited bandwidth, so my photos always show up.

You should probably stop hosting avatars, let the people worry about it themselves. You want one, you find a place for it.

It's doing absolutely nothing to cut down on bandwidth, except in the rare cases where someone is linking in a picture that's been uploaded to the board previously. Anyone that tells you otherwise doesn't understand how the web works.

This site is hosted by PWebTech, right? Their highest-level service plan allows for 10GB of transfer and costs only $30. Given the relative cheapness of that plan, getting more bandwidth shouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

We have been exceeding bandwidth with 40GB of transfer. And like ninja said, take a chill pill. You know, we (me and Daunt) aren't the *ONLY* ones that work on this site. A lot more goes on that you seem to understand, so just calm down and relax about it. We're gonna fix the issues, just give us time. Right now we are trying to determine what is causing our bandwidth to be so high.

check the webserver logs and run it through a log analyzer. it'll give you a better idea of how the bandwidth is being utilized. if you send me a copy of the logs i can try to help with it.

Exactly. Right now, someone is guessing about where the bandwidth is going. Stop that. All of the information necessary to make that determination should be available in your logs.

You don't seem to understand. What I meant by the fact that me and Daunt aren't the only people who run this site, is that we do not have access to everything. Sure I can change colors around on the forums, but I don't have access to the logs and stuff. I can *get* access to them, but I don't have them. Nancy knows what she is doing with the site and we are going to fix the problems. It's not like she's an amature computer person. I'm sure that if she reads this thread she will probably feel affended because you are making it sound like she doesn't have a clue what she's doing.

I'm not saying I know as much as you do with this stuff. I'm simply saying that I'm sure Nancy knows as much, if not more, than you do about these issues. So like I said before, calm down, take a chill pill, and don't worry about it. Let us deal with the problem.
