Hi everyone, My name is Ren and I am new to this forum. I have a 1990 300zx Twin Turbo which I've bought back in 2003 with 73,000 miles. My question is about Banded wheels. I am in the midst of fully customizing my baby and I also want to keep the stock look. I was thinking about how I can upgrade the wheels while keeping the stock look. What I would really want is to have someone custom make OEM looking wheels in 18inch with a staggered setup. But I don't even know what that would cost or if it can be even done. So I was just looking into banding the wheels to achieve the staggered setup with the 16inch OEM's. I haven't seen any banding firms here in the US, They are all in Europe. Any thoughts or advice???? Am I crazy to even fathom this??? Thank you.

Welcome aboard, Ren!

To my knowledge, that's something that's done on steel rims, or wheels that have a barrel-and-center design (neither of which applies to your Z32 wheels).

THe other issue is that very few people / shops have the talent to do a good job on them, and those that do are quite proud of their work.... So, even if you could re-barrel your Z wheels, you'd have a hard time finding someone willing to accept the liability, AND it'd be expensive.

ALSO, keep in mind, really wide 16" tires are not terribly common (or cheap).

There are a TON of beautiful aftermarket wheels on the market for the Z32 that will give you the width you want without looking obnoxious, AND you can get some really wide 18" tires for a great price.

Hey, thanks for the reply man. I guess your right, the last thing I would want is to have Frankenstein wheels!!!!lol But honestly there are vary few aftermarket wheels that I really like. I've made very subtle changes to my Z. At a blink of an eye, you wont be able to tell thats its different as I customized the actual OEM parts. So I wanted to keep the OEM theme. What do you think about having OEM looking wheels custom made in 17's or 18's? Would you know somebody that could make them? I also had another question, I am keeping the HICAS on the car, so would bigger rims mess with it? Thanks you very much.

I think you might be overthinking it - something I've been guilty of on EVERY modded car I've owned (over 35 and counting)...

Not likely to be cost-effective to get an OEM wheel custom made - Wheel manufacturing is expensive, and there's no money in it for a company to make a mold and forge a single set of wheels. They'd have to sell thousands of wheels to make it profitable.

Honestly, there are a TON of gorgeous wheels available for the Z32, from mild to wild... Personally, I love the G35 Coupe wheels on a Z:

Larger diameter shouldn't affect HICAS.

AZHitman hit on this just now. I'm not a fan of flashy mods either. For that reason I like to find OEM Nissan wheels from another vehicle when I upgrade wheels. Right now I'm running 350Z Track Package wheels. They're a staggered setup and look great on my S14. Even still says Nissan on the center caps!

Hi, Yeah I do over thing everything!!!lol The G35's look nice and clean, but to be honest with you, Those 350z track edition wheels might be the way for me. They look great and have the staggared look that i'm looking for. Still need to do more research but they look awsome and still OEM. Thanks alot. Any other suggestions?????
