If you're spending $10K plus, I wouldn't expect a rebuild to be in the near future. $10-15K should by a turnkey car in really nice shape. Alot of these cars will go into 150K plus if they're well taken care of
If the motor is already blown, you can cut that number by 70-90%, depending on the condition of the rest of the car. I just bought a 90 TT with a known bad motor for $1300.
The rebuild cost will depend on the components that need to be purchased. If the components you have are all in good shape, and you do the motor pull, disassembly and reassembly yourself, you are looking at $500-700. If the heads/valves are bad, the crank is bad, the pistons are bad, the cylinders need bored, it'd probably be more in the $2000+ range. If you want to add aftermarket performance parts, the the sky is the limit.
