i attended the z1 motorsports event in atl "the tour of the 370z" (sweet car btw, i didnt like the way it looked in pics i had seen but in person its awesome) but anyways while i was there i won a 200 gift card to mishimoto.com. i need a intercooler core because mine is way too big for wat im wanting to do but i was wondering if anyone had heard anything about these cores or if someone had experience with them. my goal is 300whp, specs are hks 264 cams, power enterprise t28 when i get tuned im gonna run 18 psi, full turbo back exhaust, intake, hks bov, spec stage II plus clutch.

When intercooler shopping, there are 2 main things you want to look for.

1) Surface Area : Will this effectively cool the charge and use the inlet area of my bumper optimally?

2) Pressure Drop: Does this core have too much room for what I am boosting?

Surface Area is how large the "face" of the core is. You do not need a core that is half hidden behind your bumper, because it is not having air run over it, therefore completely ineffective. Find a core that has at least 75-80% of its surface area exposed to the air channels.

Pressure drop is how much psi you lose by running it through a larger area. Let's say you have 3" diameter charge pipe. The boosted charge is funneling through this to the intercooler. Once it reaches the endtanks, all of a sudden there is a large opening with smaller channels for the air to flow through. By the time it reaches the opposite endtank, there has been a loss or pressure due to the large area. This is somewhat offset by the density change because of the cooling, however not enough to completely compensate.

Point is, shop smart when it comes to cores, and dont buy what you dont need.

Any chump who can TIG weld can make a bada** core in their garage for next to nothing, and it will be just as good as a $800 Blitz unit. Ive been running an ebay special for four years or so now and have nothing but good things to say about it. You can get them for nothing on ebay, check this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...A1318

Cheap as hell.

ok i understand all of this......im just asking in reference to mishimoto because all they sell is rad(i have a koyo), hoses(i already have silcone hoses), fans(i have flexa lites). i just need to know how the intercooler cores are specifically for mishimoto because of the gift card i won at the tour of the 370z i really dont want to waste this

Thats exactly what we are getting at man, you can't really have a bad core. You are getting it for free anyway so just buy one and roll with it.
