I'm told by my infiniti dealer that the ballast on my 2001 Qx4 is bad. My right headlight will occasionally be out, so that is why i had it checked. They told me that it would cost $717 to fix it, which is obviously overpriced. I'm hoping to save some money by buying an aftermarket part from rockauto, as I often do. Then I will either install the part myself or have a mechanic do it if I'm not able to do it on my own. My question is, what part do I need? A new bulb? Ballast isn't listed in the parts list or in the manufacturer manual. Also, is this an easy that fix I can do myself?

Any other advice on this is welcome. I'd be open to putting in different headlights altogether.

I don't think you can buy new ballasts. Check these two threads. You can buy a used ballast on eBay for a bit less, buy an aftermarket conversion ballast, or replace with old-school bulbs.

Check to see if your ballast is square or a rectangle size. More then likely its this one:

You can get one on eBay from several sellers around $130. It's a pretty easy job I replaced mine and I am by no means a mechanic.
