I am going to be renting a trailer to haul a loveseat on soon. Most likely from Uhaul. I do not have a ball mount for my hitch yet. Just for general towing across different kinds of trailers, what would be the best drop to get? The top of the receiver is 22" from the ground. I am thinking either a 2" or 4". Would one be more universal than the other?

I've rented a few trailers from U-Haul this year alone (multi-trip move and hauling axles around a couple times). I have a 2" drop, and it was fine for the all the trailers I rented (4x6 enclosed, 5x7 enclosed, 4x6 open if I remember the sizes correctly), though they were all at a slight pitch. At the time, I had about 3" of suspension lift with a slight forward rake. I'm sitting higher and more level now, but haven't towed anything since

That said, if you've got little or no lift, a 2" is fine. U-Haul trailers generally have lower tongues anyway (since they can be towed by other cars/SUVs), so either would work.

I actually have to raise the ball up on my non lifted pathfinder with a dealer installed hitch. The base of the ball is maybe about 1/2" above the top of the hitch. It sits fine when empty but sags pretty bad when any weight is on the tongue or in the back. The airbags are on the list of things to do, maybe i'll be able to flip it around when those are installed.

I have the airlift 1000 kit and when I tow my pop up I have about 30 psi in the bags so it sits up an extra inch or so if I had to guess. I have a hard time getting my pop up on with a 2" drop. I just went and bought like a 3 and a half the other day and it works better. I would say 2" if stock suspension, but if you have airbags/lift etc. I would go with a 4".
