new gt28r, will it be ok with out coolant?

people have mixed opinions on this, and i dont wanna screw the turbo up.

planning on putting it in tonight, so i guess i can undo the cancledd out coolant lines if needed.

I figure Garrett went to all that extra work making a casting for the coolant lines for a reason.

+1 for hooking up the coolant lines.

Ball-bearing turbos MUST be water-cooled.

naah, the new ball bearing turbos dont need water *or* oil, so you can delete the oil lines too.... which saves you gas because you wont have to use a turbo timer </dripping sarcasm>

I dont have my water lines hooked up on my s15 turbo and ive been driving it for a month and a half without any problems! heck i just got back from a drifting event in cali, and still no problems with the turbo/engine.

plus my friend from ram garage said they dont hook up the water lines on their t28 turbos back in japan either.

either way, i guess its up to you.

too late now lol.

yeah turns out its fine to just run them no coolant lines, just let them cool off a little longer, also, i just choped my coolant lines in half lol, and im using a small rubber hose to connect them. lol.

why would you need to bend the pipes? rotate the core of the turbo

in retrospect that would have been a good idea, but since everything seemed to fit fine on the manifold out of the car I didn't move the center cartridge. Once I had everything bolted to the motor in the engine bay I wasn't about to pull it all out again when I figured out that my lines didn't quite fit right! haha, so I just slightly bent the coolant lines. Oil lines lined up fine without bending.

the Japs. always eliminate the coolant lines because theres more things to go wrong.....and or leak....oil is sufficiant to cool the bearings, plus u dont heat up your coolant as much....
