I have a 07 Alt with the QR25. What is everyone's opinion on balancing shafts being removed? Has anyone done that to their Altima with the QR? Thanks

That maybe true that the ones built in japan do not have the balancing shafts. They are not necessary. The cars built here as you know do have them. This isnt a diy project. What happens if something breaks in your engine. Its not like an intake where you can put the stock airbox back on.

I dont think i would mess with that... i would think the purpose of the balancing shafts is to negate the vibration from the engine so the vehicle doesnt shake... i could be wrong but thats what i would think.

i believe the QR25 has 2 balancing shafts actually. i found an article with a buttload of tech info on the QR.. heres a link to the thread..

I remember reading on some other forum ( some dodge srt site) that you didnt have to remove the whole balancing shaft assembly, just the chains driving the balancing shafts.

You are right...all you have to do is cut the chains. i wasn't planning on removing the actual shafts. So is cutting the chains a good idea?

It's really up to you, i've heard that some people feel no change in vibration but again thats on engines with smaller displacements (2L and below). The vibration shouldnt be to great on the 2.5 plus you'll feel a bit more power at lower rpms.

If you do end up doing it let us know how it goes, if everything turns out like you expect it to then this is definitely a mod i will do

I thought jwt makes a kit to remove the balancing shafts.

i think there is more to it than just cutting the chains.

all the balancing shafts do is counter the vibration that the engine makes. most if not all 4 cyclinder engines over 2.0L of displacement have them. If you take them out you really aren't gaining any horsepower, just freeing some up. the car will shake a bit more and you may (probably) wear out your motor mounts faster. But as far as hurting the engine by removing them, i would think it would be minimal if at all, it's more of a comfort thing. I like my car being quick and smooth, so i have no plans on removing them.
