Anyone else have this? My 08 sits in the sun some of the time, but this looks like it's been baking for 20 years. I hope Nissan will replace it.

Just listed as "cover" in the manual:

LOL, sorry. Your post was the first I looked at today.

I have an '08 I got in Nov. of '07 and mine still looks fine.I highly doubt that Nissan will replace it. My bumpers on my '04 Xterra faded like that pretty quickly as well. I guess they just never put much effort in the UV research for their plastics.

Ahh, good ol' Franklin, TN. I have some family that lives up there.

Hmm, unfortunately not all plastic parts are created equal. The cowl cover may have come from supplier X, while the rest of the cowl may have come from supplier Y. This translates to inconsistencies in the plastic quality and UV protection. My '07 does not have that problem, and it is definitely not parked in a shaded area... ever!

I usually see this kind of oxidation after about four years. There is not much you can do about it permanently, but there are some "quick remedy" solutions...

1) Use Mothers' "Back to Black" on the entire cowl; this is a dressing that will restore the black luster for a few months.

2) Paint it with black flexi bumper paint

3) Put on a good set of knee pads and visit your local Nissan dealer. If you know what I mean.

Nah man, dont take any crap from the Nissan dealership. You go up to the service dept. and you tell them to take a look at the "DEFECTIVE COWL COVER" that was installed. Get them to change it cause man, no one should be stepping over you or anyone else...especially a multi-billion dollar company....I mean they are not going to loose a nights sleep over a god darn plastic cowl cover. You march your arse right into that dealership today!!!
