Being that I have a 1st gen Altima, I often think of engine swaps much like our RWD older brothers. I know a sr20det will fit in with the bluebird axles and a front wheel drive tranny, piece of cake:rolleyes . Upon my many hours of pondering, I came up with this: Putting in a qr25 in a first gen. Obviously a vq would be a tough squeeze, but the 175 rated hp a qr puts out would be quite enough to push the 2900 lbs. first gen along nicely. With the Spec V sharing the same engine, there will be tons of aftermarket support. I wonder if anyone would be brave enough to attempt this sort of thing?

ive thought about this numersous times, there isnt as much aftermarket support as i would like, but even in stock for, itd be a nice bump in power for sure, 175hp and 18o ft lbs of tq!

Eventually there will be tons of aftermarket support. The engine has only been in cars since the 2002 model year. The motor mounts will be the only thing that will cause problems

well yes in time there will be support from the aftermarket, but why do u say the motor mounts would be a problem? are they particularly weak?

no, the motor mounts from a ka will not support the qr engine. Since hasport does custom mount jobs for honda swaps, I wonder if they would make some mounts for a ka->qr swap

ooooo, i misunderstood, i thought u meant the QR motor mounts were weak, i didnt realize u meant putting the QR onto the KAs motor mounts, got it all cleared up now

but as far as the swap goes, i would just stay with a KA over a QR for now, as the KA has already been 'figured out' and the QR is still in its baby stages, and ive seen some wildly powerful KAs

I don't plan on swapping this car to any extent. I'm actually looking for a S13 hatchback and then swapping that. I'll sell my altima after buying the S13 in cash to pay for the swap. Afterdark is only a small jaunt from here.

The QR motor is somewhat of a dissapointment. I think the motor was poorly engineered. For the labor, I would stick with the KA you already have. You don't have to have an SR motor or a QR motor to be fast.

I enjoy the QR motor in my Altima and think it is a great engine. It may not be mod friendly, but if you are going to build up a monster motor why not just do it in the KA24DE. I like the idea of a KA24DET Altima.

I also enjoy my QR25DE in the Spec V.I have not yet began to mod it though. The plans that I have should work well to improve the motor's output of Hp and Tq.I would go KA24DET if I were you.I have seen one that was running real well and the turbo in the body altima is just cool IMO.I'm sure that in time some crazy person will swap out the Ka for a QR or even a VQ, if and when that happens I just hope I get to see it.;)

I'm not going to turbo my altima, even tho the engine is very strong and has low miles. I'm going to sell it and buy a 240sx.

all a matter of opinion bro, personally i love the QR, of course i havent began to mod or anything, so im still very worried how much trouble she'll give me with that, but im going to take it VERY slowly, and kind of feel her out better to know what she likes and doesnt

The Qr25 is a good engine.I remember just 5 years ago my Passat GLX with the 2.8L VR6 and 172hp/174 lb-ft was one of the fastest cars at my small college.

180lb-ft of torque is plenty for a car as light as a SPEC V.
