I actually have no side blind spots with how I have my mirrors set up.

i got a case today: someone rear ended me. It was rainy and there's a car on the oncoming traffic trying to make a left turn, the light was about to turn red, i brake a little harder than usual, the guy from behind rammed my car from the back. I can feel it/hear it. I was stopped behind the crosswalk line, after the bump, i was out onto the crosswalk but i checked the bumper and everything seems to be alright. There's cosmetic damage on the edge of bumper (paint) and license plate + cover. Here is where i need help with:

A.) go through insurance company and let them handle everything.B.) go for cash settlement (went to a shop for a rough estimate to be at $500 and up on the bumper, that's not including damage under bumper (are there anything under the rear bumper? would there be parts that might be affected that i can't see?).How much should I ask for? C.) Leave it.

Help would be appreciated!! Thanks everyone.

I would suggest that you use your insurance (well, their insurance). Also, I would suggest that you bill the insurance for a full medical check up. It doesn't take much to shift things out of alignment and can take several weeks for you to notice a problem.

That's my suggestion

I was rear ended a little over a year ago by a Honda Accord and knocked into a Land Rover. Front was a mess, back didn't look too bad. There was also damage to the floor pan that would have added a lot to the repair. The Versa was totalled. Let your insurance handle it.

if there are minor damage on the bumper (like paint wrinkle lines) could there be damage internally?

Glad to hear that you weren't totalled.

Just read this interesting post from a crash test survey."side-impact airbags are now available on all Toyota cars. They're optional on the Corolla, along with the Yaris and Matrix, two cars that ranked among the least-safe vehicles."

Nissan is way ahead of Toyota on the 'air-bag' issues. Sure you can have them in your Yarris, Matrix or Corrola if you pay extra and specal order your car with them. Buy one off the lot tho, and it probably doesn't have them, so good luck with that if you get T-boned, or a roll over.

Hyundai is leading the whole small car industy forward with all the newest safety features as standard ecq.

When more people know this, the other car dealers will have to step up or go home/broke.

Yes. That was my point. The rear bumper on my car did not look bad at all. But the car that hit me sub-marined the rear of my Versa. There was damage to the floor pan that was not visible without looking underneath.
