It's probably not a U-joint.
I have a bad U-joint in my pathy, and it's not noticible at all, but if you pull the shaft and move the joint, its obvious that the u joint is bad.
My pathy was doing that for a while, but it was a transmission related issue, caused by a faulty MAF, which would cause the transmission to shift oddly and cause the car to shake like that.
IF it is a u joint, you could notice it all the time, espically at higher speeds. cause the u-joint is always moving at the transmission output speed.
Easiest way to tell if it's a u-joint, is to pull the driveshaft and check the movement of the u-joints. I have to replace one u joint on mine, I dont recall it being too difficult to remove, just 4 bolts.
