I drove out on a somewhat manufactured business trip from LA to Phoenix. I had purchased a new air conditioner from our friends in Scottsdale. The mechanic in LA screwed it up (or the parts were bad). I decided to drive to Scottsdale, get some business done and have them fix my car.So I get to Scottsdale Wednesday night for my 10 AM Thursday appointment. I show up at the dealership in the 92 Q. It's a little dirty, I'm very unshaven. The waiting room looked like a country club affair. They must have wondered what the lot boy was doing in the waiting room. Get the loaner (some little Nissan) and I proceed back to my hotel to clean up and make some sales call around town. (I work for a warranty company - consumer electronics and appliances). About an hour later Scottsdale calls me and tells me they can't work on R12. No facilities. They refer me to Pinnacle Infiniti. They do. But they will swap out the parts under warranty. Well, that's nice! Also, no charge for the inspection. So I bring back the loaner, get the Q and drive up to Pinnacle. They'll check it. Got a G35 loaner. Nice ride! Then Pinnacle tells me to get the parts. I'm in the middle of my sales calls. I barley get to Scottsdale to pick up the new parts by closing. I pick them up. I wake up at 7. Have a voicemail my Dad had a heart attack. (No kidding! But he's doing great now but needless to say I'd kind of like to get home) at 7:30 I bring the parts to Pinnacle. I even mention in passing my Dad had a heart attack. They tell me it may not be ready until the end of the day. BWT - note I've stayed an extra day now. I'm on my nickel for the hotel the previous night. I'm on the phone every hour getting reports on Dad. At 1:30 I call Pinnacle to see how things are going. I had volunteered to take the old parts back to the Scottsdale dealer because of the warranty. They had not started the work.At 3:30 I get a call that they do not have time to do it. This is yesterday, Friday so the service department is closed for the weekend.I go back (after putting gas in the loaner - yes I put in premium) pick up the Q with the new parts in the trunk. I noticed (and this is very important to this story) that they did give me the free wash. The service consultant was embarrassed. Little did he know I'm on Zoloft which probably saved his life.So it's around 4:30, a stop at Costco for a cheap ($309.9 10% less then Costco LA) fill up and point the car West right into the sun. Nothing was going right on this trip. After stopping for dinner at the Black Bear Dinner (nice chain of 30 or so diners in the West) I'm crossing the CA border. In CA we have agricultural inspection stations on the border. I slow done and the lady hesitates waiving me through. I slow to almost a stop has I hit the auto done button for the window. She looks at me and says, "Nice looking car."You know, it wasn't a bad day after all.Oh, it's black with a beige interior. Original paint except for the nose.Regards,

Doug

One of the best stories I've read and no one could even comment? He's a talented writer. I can't wait for the next chapter.

Not good news concerning the timing chain guides. When those go, that will be a really bad trip, I assure you. Hope you are not executing a passing manuever on a two lane road.

Glad your Dad is fine. AZHitman uses European Motor Sports (?) in Phoenix, although he did go to a dealer to diagnose a bent valve. It's in the posts.

Where did he mention chain guides?
