After letting my 240 sit for a day, i went out to run an errand and it was REALLY hard to put into gear(5 spd). I hear that this is the main sign of a bad transmission. It was mainly first that was hard to shift into, but 2nd was tough too. As I drove it more it got easier though. By the time I got home it was pretty much back to normal. Since then its been off and on. When I first go to drive it, its still pretty rough to put into first. Before all this I had been thinking I have a bad transmission mount. Would that have any kind of effect on putting it into gear? What are some other symptoms I should check for...Let me know, thanks.

I haven't, but there is a receipt that the previous owner gave me that says transmission service from earlier this year...

Try changing it again with some of that Redline oil. I changed mine when I bought my car, but used the wrong kind of oil (gl-5, not 4) which made it significantly worse. it was really hard to get into first and second especially when cold. so I bought some of that redline stuff(expensive but worth it), changed it again, and now it shifts alot better and is very consistant in all temperatures. It also helped with my 3rd gear syncros, which are going bad

what oil is he changing? my transmission feels crappy too. I can't tell if it's just worn out or it needs some fluids or something. This is something i could get done at jiffy lube right? My transmission feels real clunky between first and second. Once in a while its real smooth, but other times its grindy.

In my 90 model 240sx 2nd gear got to where I couldn't shift to it. Well we took it apart and bam I had twisted the main shaft.

My dad suggested that it may be that my clutch may not be fully disengaging. And come to think of it, it does feel different. Also, when the car isnt running I can put it into all the gears with ease. It isn't until I start it up that its tought. I am going to try to adjust the clutch today. Man I could really use a FSM. Wonder if my stupid Chiltons has anything about it. Anyone have an 89-90 FSM in like acrobat they could send me?

Thanks, but neither of those links work anymore. I found em on my own shortly after posting. After some searching, it turns out my clutch master cylinder was empty. I went and got some dot3, and problem solved, for now....Hopefully its not a leak. I didn't see any obvious leaks, but I'm not exactly sure where and what to look for. I'll be keeping a close eye on the level though. Hopefully its not a bad master cylinder.

Check your carpet behind the brake and clutch pedals. See if it is wet with fluid. More than likely you master cylinder is bad and should be replaced. Or check the slve cylinder on the transmission and see if it is leaking. The fluid doesn't just disappear. Try those two suggestions. Mine was the clutch master cylinder.
