How can you tell if you have a bad TPS? Here's the back story. My car had a hesitation for a bit then I found that my tps connector was loose. I electrical taped it so that its snug and it ran great. Now It's starting to hesitate again. The connector is not loose, but when I wiggle the TPS wires the car starts to stumble harder and drop rpms. Is it time for a new TPS or should I just replace the connector with a new one?

How to test and adjust your TPS

Have you checked to see if there is corrosion on any of the metal contacts in the connector? The electrical connections on our cars are all prone to corrosion. It will look greenish. If there is, just scrape/file/clean it off and fill the connector with dieletric grease.

Really though you should probably just got another TPS. You can pick them up used pretty cheap, usually $10-30 shipped. If it's the connector coming from the harness, Z1 should have a replacement

It's fixed. (knocks on wood) I've cleaned all the connectors I can get my hands on in the past. I've come to the conclusion that I need a new harness. A lot of my connectors secure brackets are broken i.e. CAS, TPS, Idle control connector ect. I have zip ties and 200mph tape holding some on.

The fix... I warmed the car up and was under the hood wiggling different connectors and wires. TPS was fine, CAS was fine, then when I got to the PTU wires and lifted it away from the coolant hose which it's sitting on the stumble completely went away. I zip tied it to my intake hard pipe and now its all fixed. No stumble no hesitation. I want to replace the entire harness but I know I have to pull the engine out to do so and I just don't have the space or equipment to do it at the moment.

I am starting an apprenticeship with a local mechanic soon so I should be able to do it soon. A lift and engine hoist is all I need. Thanks for your input.
