OK, I'm jsut gettin to the last thing to do after the KS/Plenum job...I'm very slow......I used an ohm meter to temporially set the TPS idle switch.

When setting the TPS voltage at the AT control Box (#34,35) this is what happens:

Normal operating temp, @0.44v, Idle is at 1400rpm, and WOT (engine off) shows 3.45v. That's as high as it will go. Using the accel. pedal, it's even less.

While adjusting TPS with engine running, it will idle down @0.18v. (I'm assuming thats where the idle on-off point is)

Went back to 0.43v, idle back up to 1400rpm, completely closed IAC valve, for an Idle speed of 1000rpm.

Shut her down, closed the door, and killed 10 Coronas...

Bad TPS?

Thanks...

Meaux, almost identical to mine. check your timing. when it's up at 1400, I'll bet your timing is at 25° or so. set it back to 15 when your tps is at 0.44v hot idle and then you should be in the aac working range.as for the WOT tps voltage, i'd say if you can get a 2-->1 downshift @20mph when you mash it---you're good.

can't remember---do you have the idle oscillation as i do?

Yep, I do now, especially since I closed the IAC... :-)

Before I started adjusting, the readout was about 0.2v TPS set @ Idle switch "on- off" point...

Seems strange to me that getting to 0.44v takes me way off the Idle switch point... alot...

Is there something I'm missing? I assume the only way to adjust the TPS is by rotating...

I'll check into the timming thing...I hope it's not a long, drawn out affair...

Thanks...

Went out this morning, warmed her up.

Set TPS @ 0.42v..........

Backed out IAC 1 1/2 turns........

WOT is still @ 3.50v

Idle speed, in Park, No Accs. on, just slightly over 500rpms...smooth, very slight "hunt"...

Gonna back out the IAC 1/2 turn...

All this kinda makes the "Idle ON-OFF Switch" rather useless dosen't it?

sounds like you are close. i think 0.42V is a good compromise--been debating going to 0.42 [mine was at 0.394 when i got it], as ever since i went to 0.44 there's a very slight off-idle hesitation when 'cool'. I'd still check the timing--wes did a good write up on just sticking an inductive light on the 'loop' by the d/s ignitor pak. search for 'method b' or something like that--it's a good thread.

GQ Jay says, "Meaux, almost identical to mine. check your timing. when it's up at 1400, I'll bet your timing is at 25° or so. set it back to 15 when your tps is at 0.44v hot idle and then you should be in the aac working range."

Well, I'll be a blue nosed gopher, just as it was gettin dark, I figured, what the heck, I'll check the timing, (I'm through playin with the TPS, see "this dosen't make sense post") and it seems you were right on the money! I see 25deg.! I just clamped on to the wire Wes suggested at Q45,org. I didn't disconnect anything, just used the inductor clamp on the forward grey covered wire.

I'll adjust that in the morning. No wonder it seems like it straining to go anywhere. Kinda hard to believe it would be that far off....

Many Thanks!

Well GQ, I set the timing from 26+, back to 15 dead on, and now the IAC works, (other than setting idle speed, it didn't seem to make any difference plugged in or not) and I don't get a hard shift from 1st to 2nd. She now shifts like the FSM says it should.

Dang, settin the timing is the easiest thing I've done...I guess after a KS/Plenum job, everything is easy. :-)

Thanks for ya'lls help...!!!
