Hey guys
I've noticed a couple of days ago that the steering wheel and the whole car vibrate at speeds more than 65 mph. I thought it was a Balancing issue, i checked the balance and all was well. But the guy told me that the tires are wornout, ive had the car (from the dealer) for about a year and a half now, and its done 13,500 miles so far. I drive at about 50 mph most of the time, could the tires really be the issue here? If so, what do you think the best tire size for a 17 x 8 rims?
Unfortunately, another mechanic showed me a steel rod that is connected to the front axle, next to the front brakes, it was A BIT loose on both sides and he said that this was the cause of the vibration.

What do you guys think? personally i don't think the steel rod has anything to do with the vibration, because if it was then the vibration should occure at all speeds..
Oh i think it is worth mentioning that im currently driving a 17 x 8 rims on the stock tires, 215 / 55 R17

Are you lowered? Is the steel rod he's talking about possibly your sway bar?

When this happened to my old car, I was told that it was a "centering the wheel" issue. Bought centering rings but never had the chance to install them, so I dunno if that woulda worked. Let me know if you find the solution to this.

Thanks for your replies!
No im not lowered, im a real noob at this, im not sure if it is the sway bar or not, i think it is a called a tie rod? I found this reply in another topic, and the steel rod im talking about is located right below the black rod that is free from the other end (it looks rusty)

The only Nico threads I've seen have been about Racingling snapping.

I'm sure Racingline customer service is top notch, but the history of the parts themselves must speak for quality.

It doesn't look like its been bent or cracked, it is just a bit loose when you try to move it using a wrench.

Sounds like a TRE possibly (Tie Rod End), and yeas if there is a bit of play/slop can cause vibs at speed. Its allowing your spindles to vibrate back and forth. Fix what is wrong and see if this fixes this. Just check all joints in the front suspension system to make sure all is tight and no play.

Just so you know, any excessive play in a TRE is bad.

Ok guys
So i went to the dealer today to inspect the tie rods, i told them that the vibration occurs only at speeds of 65 + mph. They had a look (they didnt even take the tires off) at the tie rods, and they told me that if the problem is from the tie rods then the vibration will occur even at speeds as low as 30 mph, Which really makes sense in my opinion. but interestingly enough, the tires are almost 4 years old, still not worn worn though..

And the guy who works there told me not to fit 245 / 45 r17 tires because the wheels will touch the body while turning, i don't think it is true or is it?

Not true, since you're not lowered. So what was their final analysis? any solutions?

No solution. It could be because of the rims..

Honestly, I highly doubt it. 17x8 is not that heavy, mine were 20x10 they weighed a ton. Try putting on the stockers see if you get the same problem, if not then it's probably the wheels/tires. Also you might wanna try the centering rings solution maybe it'll work for you.

Lol
Guys I just sold my old rims, a guy wanted to buy them so badly that he paid me their original (new) price! I ended up getting another set, im saving for new tires. (lenso project D 17 x8) they're similar to the old ones, but the new ones are shiny and chromy and LIGHT WEIGHT)
I balanced them and aligned the steering, now the vibration has reduced noticeably. I guess the tires are next, hopefully that will eliminate the problem completely.

The new rims are similar to those (the pic is off the internet)

If you have aftermarket rims get centering rings for the hub, and metal ones, could definitely be the problem you are having.
