bad timing issue

ok, so i did some timing chain stuff on my car, etc, and since im no mechanic, i totally forgot about marking the distributor (i know, i know) i did eventually get the timing right, sorta, but now the car idles really bad, rough, and shudders almost as if it were cranking like on start-up, i know thats cause of the timing, but my questions are these:

does the ka24de crank clockwise or wounter-clockwise?

if the timing marks are ahead of the marker (to the left of it, or up, or whatever, looking from the front) does that mean the timing is advanced or reterded? my guess is that its retarded cause ive noticed a loss of power,

P.S. - wahts the simplest way to change the timing, given i have access to a timing light?
