I swapped my original timing chain out a 140,000 miles because the oil passage to pump seals went out where the t-cover meets the block.
Now at the 230,000 the timing chain tensioners are very bad with no plastic left on long tensioner and much scrubed off the short side.
I am now pulling the head because it sounded like valves were contacting pistons when I shut it down.
The chain and gears look fine except where the backside has rubbed the tensioner plates.
I used a coyles kit the last time, thinking since coyles is good on domestic cars it should be good on the D21.
Is there a brand of chain kit for the 93 KDE engine that has been proven to be long lasting and reliable.
Appreciate all input.

Most here will say go with OEM Nissan parts when it comes to the chain and its related parts. I did and it's been 4 years with no issues...yet. Don't want to jinx myself.

Yep original may cost a bit more but they last 150k for the most part. Why save a few bucks when labor is such a pain in the azz.

I removed the engine and took it down for inspection and rebuild.
Appears whoever replaced the timing chain last time failed to properly torque the bottom screw on the left side and the screw was in the oil pan as well as various pieces of the long side and filings from the cover and the steel pin that sticks out from the block to keeo the loose chain from wraping around the crank. Any kit would fail with a screw in the pan. It went at least 90,000 miles on the second kit before haveimg to be looked at.
I am amased it ran well enough to back it into the garage to start the work.
Crank rod and mains were in good shape but bearings were down to the copper backing.
Bores look fine but I will have a machine shop mic everythine to see what we really have..
Engine was cast in Mexico with a Japan crank in it.
