That sounds like when my starter died. It would crank a bit, but wouldn't start, then it would stop cranking after the 2nd or 3rd try. After maybe like 15 minutes, I would try again, it would try to crank, then nothing. After a bit it just stopped cranking even the least bit.

Sounds like the same problem i had on my 93 hatch last july.

One way to check the starter Get someone to try to start your car, while you tap the starter with a wrench or something. If it starts to crank, or starts, then the starter needs to be replaced.

Get a good starter, its a pain replacing that damn thing.

i JUSt replaced my starter a few weeks ago.it isnt very hard, you just need to see where everything is. and reach for it.2 bolts. 1 nut. 1 plug.

autozone should check them

you can try a temp. fix by smacking it with whatever heavy tool you find.

it sounds like your battery is just under the necessary charge to turn the motor over. thats why you just hear the clicking. charge the battery for a few minutes, then start the car and leave it running for an hour to help the alternator recharge the battery a bit.

If you haven't already, do what i suggested before. Save you the trouble of taking off the starter and then find out it wasn't the problem.

check around the wiring under the hood like around the fuse box to see if all the connections are ok. Like just jiggle them around. Also do a search on "car not starting" or something similar. I found numerous threads on this subject when my starter died on me

PGBrianIt was a pain changing it for me.... The bolts were freaking hard to turn cause i had no leverage while being under the car. The hardest one was probably the top bolt.
