Washed my coupe this weekend and found spots on the top of the car and on the trunk. Some look like a round milky spot, others look like an outline. I can not feel them. I tried Scratch X and didn't seem to do anything. Now, I've been trying rubbing compound.Any suggestions????

Hm....

Have you tried a clear coat cleaner? Tho I doubt it will do much if you unsuccessfully tried rubbing compound. You can either try a professional or maybe light watersanding?

Claybar or 3M Fine Cut before rubbing compound. The Rubbing compound is too abrasive for my taste and takes forever to polish out.

Thought about the claybar, but a guy at the local Autozone said he used to work in a shop and if you could not feel it, then claybar would not work.

I have had success with some acid rain/hard water spots with Scratch X, so I was a little surprised when it didn't work. That's why I went on to the rubbing compound. But I can't tell that it did anything. might be time to take it to a prof.

and thanks for the quick responses!!!!

Yeah it could be just hard water spot or acid rain. Try to use goo gone or white vinegar and water mix before you end up wet sanding it. Just make sure you rinse it thru after apply vinegar.

You can also use MEK( Methyl Ethyl Ketone)-- unsure Spelling?!?!? but that thing is hardcore not suggested.

Hey SVT, I have an idea of what may have happened, you say it's on your roof and near the spoiler right?

Well maybe you had some bird doo doo on your window, you tried the wipers and perhaps added some washer fluid that sprayed the fluid of doom over your car in random spots, acid rain would be more consistent I think.

Too bad you're having no luck getting them out I would only wetsand as a last resort, something like 600, to 1000, to 2000 with lots of patience, follow up with some more polish and wax... Geez good luck man.

Sorry to see spots on Your Baby.If rubbing compound did not take it out,it is probably time to see a professional. It is probably etched into the clearcoat, and a good detailer can wetsand it without going through the clearcoat. If You feel brave and want to try it Yourself, get some 2000 grit paper and a hand held flourescent light, and take it slow.If the 2000 grit works, follow up with a good polish ,like 3M finnese II.Good Luck

Tried a small spot with some 2000 grit that I had....didn't do anything to the spot except make a dull spot on top of it.... So, I guess it's time to take it to a professional.

Thanks guys!
