I know theres been a LOT of posts/threads about having excessive oil pressure, pegging the gauge ect, ect, but my prob seems 2 b a little diff. So here goes:
#1 when i slap the top of the gauge it drops down 2 the seemingly correct pressure & will stay there reading correctly for a while then peg out again til i slap it.ok that sounds like a bad gauge untill u add the following: In rain or dense fog the gauge works flawlessly.#2 i have noticed that if i look carefully @ the dash lights they flicker ever so slightly, so could this problem b bad grounding? bad gauge or both?
I have seen & heard about grounding kits so i was wondering if this is a common problem with Zs, bad grounding. I have a 2003 touring with the 5spd auto transmission.
Any1 care 2 comment?

That certainly sounds like ground, or a short.

Every time I've talked to someone with oil psi gauge problems it was either a problem with the sensor* or the gauge itself. I always tell people to put the car is option in the ACC position and if the gauge pegs out without the engine running you know it's the gauge. In your case with the gauge running intermittently that doesn't sound like that's the issue.

*Don't use a sensor from a G35. They're cheaper for a reason, they only have a switch for the warning light and do not support the constant monitoring gauge function.

Yea im leaning towards a BAD ground myself, especially with the flickering dash lights, & the gauge working ok when it rains,or dense fog.
I know it would cost an arm & a leg 2 try & hunt down a bad ground so im thinking about buy & installing a ground kit.
BTW im NOT a stranger 2 Nissans "Zs" this is my 5th 1, ive owned 2 1982 280s 1 1984 300zx & 1 1991 300zx Twin Turbo, but this is my 1st z33 so its completely a new Animal 2 me but i am ENJOYING the ride.
