V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

I blew the old LS1 up at the track the other day.

Oil pump must have laid down mid track or so.I got the car home and tore down the motor. We damaged 6 of 8 rods, slight damage to the crank and spun 2 bearings completely.

Good news the Main bearings looked good and there was no other damage to cylinder walls or heads. Although we discover that the valves were hitting the piston tops slightly. So I guess I will need a flycut piston or dished.

Ill have pics up of the damage tomorrow.

Plans are see what rebuild will cost and decide if I go 383 stroker or LS2 short block. One thing is for sure I will have a high volume oil pump.

I am about to do this swap, so this makes me a little scared. Any words of wisdom to help avoid this?

If you buy a high mileage shortblock, replace the oil pump...and make sure you have the money to replace it if you blow it up. Could happen to any motor, any time, and to anyone. Just one of those things.

All you can do is take precautions and hope for the best. Recipe for success when it comes to cars...

Enjoy --> Blow-up --> Rebuild --> Enjoy

Worrying and babying and not driving it means you never make it to the "enjoy" part.

There are precautions you can take in case the oil pump dies, which by the way is a rare thing if the pump is new. I don't recall hearing about oil pumps failing unless they are high mileage items or abused.

Back on topic, Summit sells an emergency resovoir that pressurizes the motor upon the oil pressure going below a certain psi. But you'd need to have the motor also on a kill switch to prevent any further damage as the resovoir isn't designed to lube the engine, just save it.

Again, with a new pump it's not something I'd worry about. Like Chris said, any motor in any car can suffer the same issues.

When I do a swap or major work on a motor, I change the oil pump if its in question as well as the water pump, gaskets, seals and bearings depending on how far the motor is being broken down. But I also get a sense of security...

Then again I change my oil filter every 1500 and oil every 3000. Better safe then sorry.

Ill try to find my camera and post up the carnage

Also yes please if you do this swap change the oil pump. I didnt do it due to no thinking and being lazy. I beat on my motor and it held pretty well and Id say if the Oil pump hadnt gone it would still be chuggin along.

Also update. 408 stroker is going in 500 whp NA baby!!
