A VARISTOR IN THE OCS CONTROL UNIT LOCATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED OUT OF SPECIFICATION. Remedy: DEALERS WILL TEST THE SIGNAL BETWEEN THE OCS AND ACU SYSTEMS USING A SPECIAL TOOL TO CHECK THAT IT IS FUNCTIONING AS DESIGNED. IF NECESSARY, THE SEAT CUSHION (CONTAINING OCS HARDWARE) WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE MANUFACTURED TO SPECIFICATION. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE NOVEMBER 3, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200. You know I was thinking about it and..... I never sit in the passenger seat anyway So It really wouldn't affect me anyway.

Excellent! I have been wondering why i even have a backseat in my coupe. I am seriously eyeing removing that backseat---weight savings and improved gas mileage.

The recall is a simple reflash of the airbag control unit. Simple repair no fires no need to storm the dealer. This was initiated by Nissan without government forcing them to, they say that they noticed an issue during an internal review.

The newer cars that use OCS (Occupant Classification System)(weight sensing bag of air) inside the passenger seat requires a parameter change for the tolerance specs inside the AB control unit.

That stupid sensor. It did not recognize my wife sometimes in the 07. Probably before dinner. LOL She is around 110lbs.

That's stupid, stupid car sensing *** weight incorrectly.

Depending on some seating positions the actual weight on the sensor may not exceed the threshold to set the P/side airbag. I would be willing to bet the old car was subject to it.

EDIT- I actually read the OP after writing this and this sounds different I missed the part about cushion replacement, I will have to look into that I skimmed the bulletin today. I would not go in expecting a new seat bottom, it does not say that everyone gets new seat bottoms. This is slightly different that the fuel hose, brake switch and any other G related ones.

Maybe I can just ignore the recall on my 2007. It's one way to lose the wife and not half my assets at the same time!

I read a couple of news releases that said Nissan expected this to only affect about 1 in 100 cars. I live 115 miles from the the nearest Infiniti dealership. What are the chances the local Nissan dealership will test this for me when the recall is official?
