Have searched this and other forums and not have any decisive things to look for in a bad motor mount

I have a thread for vibration but it seems to have gotten old so here we go

Replaced transmission mount and now my vibration has shifted more to the front of the car adn can be felt in the steering wheel. Tires are perfectly balanced etc and alignment good. Making sense of course. The car in drive giving gas the motor moves about one inch, the car in reverse giving gas the motor moves 2-3 inches.

Since the vibration after transmission mount replacement has moved forward instead of back, I am assuming the vibration is being caused by bad motor mounts.

I do know that a 10 year old car needs to have rubber components replace. Plan on doing motor mounts and drive shaft soon but just want to get the most bang for my buck. I replace all the exhaust hangers.

What are your all thoughts

Have a safe and healthy holiday

Wow my local dealers are robbers. Scottsdale wants 86 each for the mounts and my local dealer wants $135 each when the list is under 120.00

Now get this, the dealer was $240 to replace the mounts and will do it at thsi price even if I supply infiniti parts from elsewhere. Their parts dept would not come down in price even when I told them I was going to do it with someelses parts. In my opinion, better to make something than nothing but oh well.

BTW the local shop I used wanted 20 more to do the same job so I decided to use the dealer for their warranty.

Thanks to those who answered and still like to get some input from others who may have experienced the same problems

When I am in the dealer I plan on using them to go over the car

Happy New Year!

I think it's a "$500 job"... like 3-4 hours labor plus parts cost (on a Q45). Actual invoices may vary!!!

To check them, you need a floor jack, put a nice piece of wood that is about 1' sq to protect the tin sump & slowly jack up the engine & transmission seperately & watch the mounts as they expand.

If they are broken, you will see them seperate internally. Quite easy to see.

Just had the engine mounts replaced

Total Mounts 174 Instal $150 Total $324

I now definately think I need to replace the center bearing

The vibration has now shifted back towards the center of the car and better at low speeds but worse at higher speeds.

I am looking at $600 for the shaft assembly either from scottsdale or local. Scottsdale was lower but when you add in freight (not UPS because of handling) it is the same

Can the center bearing be replaced alone. I would love to save but the dealer recommneds replacing the whole thing. I am leary of this because they make more this way

Any thoughts?

From reading on the 300zx sites and talking with a local drive shaft shop, the center bearing can be replaced seperately. However, it could be a case of "while you're there"... It was truely amazing, in my case, how all my vibration concerns disappeared with the new tires. (knock wood)

Did the tire thing then the exhaust mount hing, then the transmission mount thing, then the motor mount thing

Thi sis the last and most expensive unless the u-joints re ok and I can just have the center bearing replaced for a third the cost

Plan on having the u-jonts inspected first

Yes, you can replace the Centre Bearing by itself. I did mine. I have a 94 Q.
