So i broke the maf that came on the car. Got one from ebay and it seems fine. My mechanic tested it and told me it wasnt functioning properly. My car get between 26 and 31 mpgs and idles smooth, but under WOT it kind of pulses between power and no power. kind of small hesitations back to back. It seems like 3/4 throttle is more powerful and consistant with power. I dont know when the last time plugs were changed either. any help is much appreciated.

Changing your plugs will help for sure. I would go look in the junk yards for another MAF so it doesn't set you back too much.

I found one on The Org for 45 shipped. I just didn't want to buy it then find out that wasn't the problem. Have you heard of that hesitation problem before?

I would change your plugs first and check for any vacuum leaks first. My buddy's acura had some bad hesitaion problems recently and I know it's not a nissan but we changed the plugs and hasn't had a problem since. I changed the plugs on my buddy's 04 maxima about a year ago and it took us a while because of the plugs in the back under the manifold, but well worth it and saved a lot in labor. Search and you'll find some DIY plug change.

I just re-read your original post and thought... Your mechanic said your MAF isn't working. Why not go with what he said? Or do you not trust him?I would still change your plugs though.

Ive been with this mechanic for 10 years and i trust every word he says. The reason im not sure is because the car, other than the hesitation, runs great. I threw a code for the evap and knock sensor also about a week ago, but i reset the light and it is still off. Im pretty sure my gas milage would be a lot worse if my KS and/or MAF were bad. thanks for the input

I have a knock sensor if you need one. Check on frsport.com for the knock sensor and it'll tell you if the 240 ks works for the maxima. I know you can use it on most nissans.
