was wondering how do you tell if you have a bad maf??

these are the symptoms:

- car sputters at idle (it feels like its spitting)- has trouble reving pass 3500 rpm, it sputters at 3500 and than its able to go above that and it doesn't feel like its making any power.- rich smell of gas, gives me the impression i'm running rich.

thanks any help would be appreciated.

my guess its a bad maf sensor.

yep... that sounds about right.

You should be able to unplug your mafs while at idle to see if it corrects itself.

but yeah, your symptoms sounds like mafs

does that usually help it, if its a bad maf.

like by unplugging it and replugging it back in?

no... its merely to check if it is indeed your mafs.

they sell mafs cleaner at the parts store for like $5. Go to the store, take your mafs out and clean it a couple times. Hopefully you don't need to buy a new mafs.

It usually acts up after you install a new aftermarket filter or something because of the oil getting on the sensor.

So I'm guessing you just installed a new intake huh?

couldn't find any maf sensor, only found brake cleaner with electrical components.

well i didn't install a new filter, but i did a swap, and i guess the maf was probably sitting for a while i'm assuming.

but perhaps i'll try to run out again and find something, but i can't seem to find anything particular for maf only.

yeah.. keep looking... or ask for assistance. Kragen usually stocks them up pretty well. You definitly don't wanna use carb or brake cleaner... the chemicals too strong for the sensors.
