Bad install job on Rear Bumper Protector

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I got my 2011 EX35 about 2-wks ago. I just took it back for the dealer to add Rear Bumper Protector. When I picked up the car, I notice that the technician had put it on crooked. They said they have to order a new one and will replace it.

My concern is that the part is adhered to the bumper using double-sided tape. If they remove the part what would happen to the paint? Even though the new piece will be put in place, but damages would have already been done to the paint and any problem will not be seen until years later. Is my concern unfounded?

In the past I have had good luck removing double sided tape using a hair dryer to soften up the adhesive and in some cases dental floss or fishing line to saw through it. The floss/line saw is good for removing badges.

Our dealer installed ours too far forward, and it rubbed the paint off of the bottom of the hatch. Had to be repainted, and a new one installed with only 900 miles on the vehicle.
