After reading the tech page about testing injectors with an ohm meter I got the following results and don't understand:

Cylinder 1: 13.1
Cylinder 7: No Reading
Cylinder 6: 12.3
Cylinder 4: Started at 30 something and jumped all around into the hundreds and never stopped jumping around

Cylinder 8: 21.1
Cylinder 3: 13.1
Cylinder 5: 35.7
Cylinder 2: 12.9

So my conclusion is that Injectors for cylinders 1, 6, 3, and 2 are good. I get that no reading from cylinder 7 means it's bad. I guess above 14 ohms is no good too. But what is up with cylinder 4? Is my trouble more than just bad injectors?

Car has 209K Miles. I thought I was so smart buying the car and planning to use the drivetrain as a donor in a kit car. Didn't do my research and missed how expensive maintenance and rebuilds are on these engines. Claims of 300 hp are tempting though.

Now I'm just trying to sell the car without losing all my money.

Thanks for any help.

Uh, don't get it. Injectors aren't that expensive.

Russ.. First off, welcome to NICO. This is pretty typical of older Q. At 209k miles, if the engine was well maintained the rotating assembly has lots of life left in it. Before you swap it into your kit car, you will want to go through it reasonably well and replace things like spark plugs, valve cover seals, front and rear main seals, and probably dive under the intake manifold for injector work.

Your best bet is to switch over to the 94-96 style injectors. Try and find a set of injectors, fuel rails, and wiring harness from a 94. Then you can send the injectors off and have them tested/cleaned and flow matched from deatschwerks, http://www.deatschwerks.com/

You'll have about $700 in injectors (about $86/ea).

On the older engine like that, you're going to want to check the timing chain guides and be sure they're replaced. One would think at 209k that they've already been done, but with the engine out of the car, it's not really a big deal to pull the timing covers and whatnot.

I'm not sure how much you were planning on doing, but at 209k if you've got the engine apart I might be tempted to pull the bearings out and look at them and replace if necessary, since it's difficult to get oversize bearings if you spun a bearing and needed to turn the crank.

I'm guessing you paid $500-$1000 for the car (maybe less), and for another $1200 or so you can have an engine that will make 340HP with my ECU and be solid reliable for many miles. Find me another engine for $1200 that can say that, and is a twin cam all aluminum V8.

Thanks for the feedback.

Unfortunately for me, I paid a bit more. Oh well.

Is there a tech article you can direct me to regarding the swap to 94 95 injectors and rails etc. Or is it as simple as unpluging unbolting and swapping?

Love this site!

There is a thread I made a while ago documenting this...

94-96-style-injectors-on-90-93-q-inform ... 99119.html

I have the pictures somewhere, I would say it 99% bolt on. Don't be intimidated, it's pretty straight forward once you get in there.. It will seem like it's not put together exactly right but it will work fine, IMO it's better than the adapters that Deatschwerks sells to adapt the 94 injectors into the 90-93.

I just picked up a parts car to swap a VH45 in my boat.. :)
