bad ignitor?

How do you tell if your ignitor is bad? I picked up a test light and probed the wires going into it with the key in the on position, and they have power, but the wires coming out do not. Do these wires only see power when the engine is turning?

Basically my problem: newly swapped CA18DET into 90 S13. Followed heavythrottle.com's wiring instructions. The plug from the ECU to the interior body wiring harness had to be completely redone, as both my chassis' connector and the CA harness plug were both male (i just matched color to color here). So the engine cranks, but wont catch. I have fuel pressure and power at the individual coil packs, but am not able (by myself) to check the ignitor while the engine is cranking.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
