Hey, guys I have a 93 j30t it just hit 130k yesturday. I got in the car yesturday and it started to idle ruff, so I started to drive and when driving the car was still vibrated hard after a few blocks it went away, but when I got on the high way it started again it felt like it was misfireing. So I checked all the spark plugs all of them seemed fine except when I took out the coil that connect to plug #2 it had no effect. So my guess it was a bad spark plug so I switched plug #2 with plug# 4, and # 2 still had no effect so my guess it either the spark plug aquator or a bad ignition coil. I switched the spark plug aquator and it still did it, so am I left to believe its the ignition coil that goes to # 2 plug, any help would be appreciated...

Sorry, not sure what you mean by "aquator". Nothing you've done so far has caused a change in symptoms/cylinder? How do you know it's not the injector?

The best way to check this is to do a power balance test with a scan tool. If you cant do that then you can individually unplug the injectors and see what changes then. Also you can disable the fuel system, take out all the spark plugs then connect the suspected coil to plug and ground it on the intake plenum, then have someone crank the car over and check if you have spark.

Another thing is that this car has coil over plug, so I think what he meant by aCtuator is the actual ignition coil. So check the coils like I said and then check the fuel system.

No need for a PBT-he's already narrowed down the cylinder. It isn't firing at all, so disconnecting the injector will have the same effect as disconnecting the coil. The piece that goes"in the tunnel" is the coil itself...sounds like you tried swapping something else besides that. None of it made a difference, so the coil sounds OK. I don't remember how easy it is to get to the injectors on the VG, but I'd look at those next.

Well he should try switching the coil over and see if the other cylinder acts up.

The injectors are easy to get to, just under the infiniti engine cover. Now removing the injectors is another story. Plenum removal or grinding will the involved.

My interpretation is that he's already tried swapping coils with no affect.

No he said he switched the plug not the coil.

yeah i tried switching the coils and the plug, niether made a difference, but i brought it to a friend of mine and he used a scan tool, that Dominick was talking about and he narrowed it down to a bad injector, luckily he has one hanging around in his shop and it will be replaced today. thanks for all the help fellas...but i have another question how long can i drive with a bad injector before something terrible goes wrong, and its #2 injector thats bad..

I guess that depends on if the injector is stuck open, closed or what it goin on with it. Its its stuck open then defenitely do not drive the car for long. Otherwise just be careful. If I were you I would go ahead and replace all six injectors since the job is a pain in the ***. Removing the plenum just for one injector doesnt sound like fun.

I would guess the scan tool found the injector to be electrically faulty, meaning it's closed. You can verify by taking a resistance measurement across the pins of the injector itself. Glad you could get it narrowed down.
