Ok well i have searched this topic over and over but cant fix it. The prob is that my idle dies when ever a load is put on my engine ..mostly when i put on my rear defrost or my front defrost ...and even my A/C which from reading other forums i hear that this prob. is caused by a drity IACV but i dont understand why this happens with my defrost. i have done a FULL tune up and a plenum clean, and it still does it... any help would be great  :help

well, heres why. when you put the defrost on, its causing the alternator to place a load on the engine, thereby causing your fagile idle to disintegrate.

rear window defogger doesnt draw that much power.... it shouldnt matter unless he has some crazy electrical problems.

When you select the front window defog button, and have the fan speed on 1-4, the AC is actually engaged. This is because the car uses the air cooler to pull moisture out of the air (colder more dense) and then it is routed through the heater and out the vent. So the same behavior should be observed when you try to use the AC.

If the idle drops and is unstable (but car still runs) it is possibly a problem with the IACV. If the car dies right when it is engaged it may be a problem with the compressor sticking somehow and causing alot of drag on the engine.

I dont know how often IACV's clog up but I would check the wiring going to it first.

actually the electrical grid in the rear window(if functioning properly) is one hell of a load on the electrical system. when sitting at idle turn it on and listen to your cars idle fluctuation.

I have tested my battery and altenator all in tip top shape ....but if i put it on floor vent or pannal vent it is not as bad. all my wiring seems to be good.. What is incharge of kicking up the idle when a load is put onthe engine ???it seems to be worse in the wwet weather or cold.... how hard is it to clean the iacv do i have to remove any part of my intake (upper...lower??) or is it sumthing else

I have a same sort of problem too. If I am sitting at a stop lighting Idling and pull my left control arm back (engauges hi-beams) my Idle goes up a little and my car even gives a slight shake! JUST FROM TURNING ON HI-BEAMS. And If I release the arm back Idle is normal. I am going to run seafoam through my engine and hope It cleans anything thats clogged.

Have you checked the wires on the injectors? On my SOHC, I've discovered that the reason why my engine shakes sometimes is because of the connectors for the injectors are somewhat loose and when I push the injector plugs to the left or right, it'll help out smooth out my idle (which pisses me off to no end). Dunno just an idea. I too have tried seafoam and it didn't help the idle problem. Might want to give the injector deal a try. Oh as for my temporary fix, I put some zip ties (ghetto yeah I know) to hold my injector plugs in a better position although I do need a more permanant fix. So I plan on getting some battery cleaner and hosing the crap out of the plugs for my injectors, going to a yard and cutting out the injector plugs off my "donor" car ha ha ha only to resolder them into the places where the plugs for injector 1 and 2 once sat. Savage, yes I know.

180 if you take a pointed scribe and bend the female pins in the connector a little tighter it will be a more permanant fix.

when is the last time you changed your spark plugs? what kind of condition are they in?

I would imagine that possibly less electrical current for a moment might impair the spark plug if its not in good shape anyhow.

Just give it a quick look over if you cant think of anything else.

IACV is most likely the problem in both your cases.

When you put the front window defrost on the last button (the windshield only function) it should kick the idle UP just like the a/c is on, so most definately IACV unit or wiring to it is your problem. For sure. Its a ****** to replace though.
