Ok guys, i started up my car (NA 1991 240sx gettin ready for turbo in a few weeks) yesterday morning and this is what is happening:
1) It idles really poorly, sometimes dying, and will die if I put the clutch in while driving or come out of gear. Sometimes if I am careful enough with tapping the throttle i can save it and it'll crappily idle somewhere between 200-500 rpms.
2) The E-Brake light is on ALL THE TIME. But it is very dim when the throttle position is anywhere greater than around 15% (open). It will be on SOLID/FULL RED when the throttle is closed, and if I open the throttle or go drive for a while with throttle open, it will go away to a very very dim RED that is almost unseeable in the daytime. The very MOMENT I let off the throttle it goes full red again. Bright (as if the e-brake was on).
3) There is a slight buzz coming from behind my standad guages. It only occurs when the BRAKE light is on full red, and usually between 0-3000 rpms. it sounds kinda like a bee.
4) If i turn my steering wheel at least 90 degrees in either direction the buzz goes away (but the light stays bright). If I hold the wheel at that position for a few seconds the buzz will come back, but if I move it further the sound will go away again.--------------------------------------------------------------This is what I have done:-Checked the MAF connection several times. Engine runs like crap when disconnected, so it seems the MAF is working at least somewhat.-Checked the vaccuum ports on the intake to make sure they are still used/plugged.-Checked my battery connections-Inspected TPS plug, which looks fine-Done an ECU CEL code check, and my EGR-Temp sensor(california model) code is the only that pops up (and it is even gone now that I cleared it). By the way, a week ago I did remove that ground that goes from the intake mani (near the TB) to the battery tray... Car ran fine for a week tho... (this has been reconnected)
The car runs and sounds great when i drive it. There is no rev limit that I have found under 6000.. i never go over 6k, so I dunno if the stock limiter is working.. probably. It is ridiculous to drive in stop and go traffic though.. it makes me want to kill someone because I can't just keep rolling. The car fires up fine. Starter sounds solid, charge sounds solid. I'm guessing my battery is fine. The night before all this I had driven a few miles, parked it, and everythign was fine.
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? DOES ANYONE HAVE A SUGGESTION AS TO WHERE I SHOULD START? HEEEEELP! I NEED A SOLID RUNNING MOTOR BEFORE I BOOST!
UPDATE:I noticed that my wipers will do a one time swoop sometimes when I start the car.
I reconnected/reestablished the intake-batterytray ground... problem still exists.
I went to Kragen and they did a diagnostic on my Alternator and my Battery. Both are fine.
I upped my idler screw so that I now idle at 800 rpms, which fixed the drivability issue, but the problem is not fixed!
