I got lucky. i bought my 2006 M35 sport Oct 22nd of this year, from a shady little car dealer. Mine had (when i bought it) 47k miles black on black adv. tech pkg.,.....etc. Originally they were asking $24,999. then a week later they lowered to $22,999. Apparently no one was interested (it wasn't advertised very well, thankfully). I called the guy and got him down to $19,999 before i ever went out to see the car.
I let a few days pass, he kept calling and calling me asking if i was coming to take a look at it. Finally, on a Wednesday afternoon, the guy called me again, told me that he really needed to sell the car bad (something about financial problems) I told him that i would give him $18,000, and come pick it up right now. thinking that he would tell me to get lost. He was mumbling something under his breath, then he said "fine, come get the damn thing"........I dont think that i've ever moved quite that fast.
Went to the car lot, the car was a solid 8 out of 10, carfax was clean, so i made the deal. He told me that there was no lien on the title, and that they would mail it to me. Heres where the problem starts. Apparently, he had a floor plan w/ manhiem auto auctions. That company holds the titles to all of his autos. When he sells a car he is suppose to pay off the lien, so i can get my title.
Long story short, he never had any intension of paying off the cars, he was selling them for as much as he could and pocketing the cash, then bankrupting the loan company.
I did end up getting my title from the dept. of Revenue criminal investigation div. and i think that guy may be going to jail. But i did get a sweet deal on a loaded 06 M35 sport!
