I stopped and got gas the other day at a place I've never got fuel before. I was on E and didn't know how far id make it. I put 3 gallons in it. I got down to the last gallon or so and had all kinds of problems start. The car won't idle on its own. I have to hold thr RPMs around 2000. It sounds like I have a set of VTEC killer cams in it. If I stomp on it, it runs fine. If I'm just cruising along it feels like its missing. All this started after I bought that gas. KA24DE, 216,xxx miles. Intake and catback is the only thing on it. Filled it up with 93 and run a couple gallons tbhru it. No difference yet. Any ideas?

When your tank gets extremely low considering the amount of miles you have, there may have been a bunch of sediment in the bottom of the tank. This could have clogged the pick up screen and/or the fuel filter. I'd replace the filter if you haven't, especially with those kind of miles. Then pour in a fuel system cleaner. Take it from there and see how the car runs after.

I am having a similar issue. I know its because of rust deposits in the tank and now I have to have the tank either hot tanked or buy a new one. If what Scotty doesn't help, open the tank when it is close to empty and see if there is particles at the bottom.

isnt the fuel pump always sucking fuel from the bottom of the tank? it wouldnt matter then it there was crud on the bottom cuz it'd get sucked up any time. plus it would have to go through the fuel filter anyways.

OP could have been water in that gasolina. put some acetone in your tank and that should help the water burn up. wont hurt, same stuff as seafoam.

Yes, it syphons from the bottom. But OP states that he was so low on fuel that he "was on E and didn't know how far [he would] make it", and if that's the case any sediment sloshing around in the tank would now be very limited in space and concentrated into a smaller area. I've seen it happen where it clogs both the fuel pump screen and the inline filter (and OP's car is very high mileage). But, great thought there as water is definitely another possiblity too! OP, do the cheap easy things first and so on - Good luck! :dblthumb:

Pull out the fuel pump and check the filter screen that's mounted too it. It probably has a new build up of rust over the gradual stuff that gets sucked up.

Its easy to do so put it out, clean it with some carb cleaner and throw it back together with a new 300zx TT fuel filter in the engine bay.
