I know it's rare but what exactly are the symptoms of a bad fuel pressure regulator? Does it run super rich or does it restrict the flow of gas.

I rebuilt my ka-t this last summer and it's ran like a dream ever since. Then about 3 weeks ago on my way back to school it randomly starts losing power and running like absolute s*** for maybe 15 seconds. Just no power at all, like it's barely running. Then as randomly as it happened, it went back to normal. Had been fine ever since.

Today I drove it maybe 2 miles total, and on the way back it started losing power like it had 3 weeks ago. This time it didn't go away, it finally sputtered and died. I rolled into a parking lot and checked the ecu for codes, reset it, checked spark, checked all connections, vacuum, etc., everything seemed normal. Wondered if I could have gotten a bad tank of gas, put a bottle of dry gas in, let it idle for a few minutes but no change. Changed the fuel filter, still no change.

The car will start up and run fine for about 1 second, then sputter out and barely idles at like 300 rpm. Sounds like an old Harley with a billion miles on it. When I push the gas in it just sputters, or will rev up fine till about 2k and then cut out. The only reason I don't think it's running rich is because there's no smoke, when when it's running like s***.

Could my stock fpr have taken a crap? The chassis has 120k miles, fpr is stock. Walbro fuel pump, 550cc injectors. I found a couple threads where people's stock fpr's took a s*** from the increased pressure when using a walbro fuel pump.

I had to get the car towed back to my house thankfully I wasn't far, but I really need to get this fixed, as it's underivable currently.

You should check the fuel pressure.

I believe it should be about 42psi during idle.

Yeah- anywhere from 38-42 psi should be fine.
Of course, if something went bad with your fuel pump, your pressure would also be reading all out of wack.
Typically when something is funky and intermittent like that, its electrical, not mechanical. I would think if the FPR went bad, it would clog up or something and cause higher pressures, not lower. Then again I guess it could also blow a hole in it or something, which would cause lower pressures... but again, it would do that and then stay that way after the first time, not return back to normal for a while.
